Prove your first statement.

Quantrill
You prove yours - all I did was swap your broad brush "democrats" for "republicans":
The divide is now too great in America for any hope of a united 'peace'. The beliefs are too opposite. They are impossible to bridge. Democrats have shown they are not only unwilling to live under any Republican government, but that they will do all they can to go against such a government, including violence.

How did they use physical force to keep men subserviant in 1861?

Both sides use the power of the purse. What is that supposed to mean?

Quantrill
Cause your boy, Quantrill, use to go round up escaped slaves.

But I see you're ok with that.

A Democrat in 1861 was nothing like democrats today. Same with Republicans. I vote Republican now but Republican was the party of Lincoln, who I don't really care for.

It's called history 101. What may be liberal at one time is conservative in another. A little history gives understanding in many things. But I am not surprised in what I run into.

Quantrill

that's true

the democrat party is far removed from what it once was, but far too many do not bother much about history

and the history of the Civil War is VERY one sided in the manner in which found in history books in school and slavery was far from the only issue...and certainly not the only issue

I'm responding here not because I agree with a split here (physical since the other has already occurred) but because of the way some are defining history

I'm not American (although I live in the US) but I did a paper on the Civil War in independent studies in my last year in High School and it was a terrible war and the devastation to the south done by union soldiers is immoral and was not necessary

I will also go so far as to say that emancipating the slaves in the way in which it was done, has repercussions that the US faces to this day.

No education...almost all unable to read or write and turned loose to make their way in a manner that suggests less care for their well being by the ones who emancipated them, then the ones who had enslaved them.

if I am not mistaken, some did board ships to go back to Africa and that choice given them...but Africa itself has always been a hotbed of civil war...war among tribes...and it should be noted that other Africans SOLD their fellow country men and women as slaves and profited from that

slavery is often made the only issue for the war, but this is a big mistake

The war between states is a never ending issue in the South. I was born 119 years after it ended, yet I grew up in the aftermath of the war.

I grew up, listening to the stories about who was killed, in what way he, or she, was killed, who was held in captivity, who stood up against the Yankees...and who didn’t...scalawags...

I wonder how many lives that war has ruined over the years after it ended.

The War is always just beneath the surface, and unfortunately, many northerners enjoy rubbing their victory in, even today.

No, it wasn’t about slaves, like some folks are insisting on, it was about states rights.

I pray that it will never happen again and it scares me whenever I see how divided the country is.

Good Lord in Heaven, please, build bridges between the people of this land, before it’s too late. Amen

Go back and reread post #1. Note 2nd paragraph. I did prove mine.

Yes, all you did was swap my statements for yours. But you offered nothing to prove your statement. You're a great imitator, but do you have anything to offer.

Exactly right. In obedience to the Constitution. What did your 'boys' do? Oh I know, they broke the Constitution and hid the slaves in the underground railroad and shipped them to Canada.

So, boy...who is the outlaw?

There is a higher law than the Constitution. Slavery is indefensible no man has the right to own another man.

How do you know some form of secession would not be God's will?

Stranger
Why don't you go to the graveyards of the people who died in the war and ask them? Their markers, that cover the hills and lands of this nation speak for them.

Now you want to add to their voices? More graveyards, more voices? Your own voice? Why?

What is the reason for millions to die? Political differences? Religious differences? Morality issues? Millions of people are living in peace right now, with all those issues, in peace with their neighbor.

Jesus is the Prince of PEACE. You are serving the king of war.

Pray to Jesus for mercy, that you do not reap the seeds that you are sowing.

not being American (married to one so I'm here), I sometimes just shake my head at things...not in a righteous way cause Canada has its own problems; there are tensions between the French and English in Canada and between the East and West.

but the US is very divided and seeing what is going on right now in the gov, is very disheartening. I never used to be political, but you almost have to take sides because the extremes are so in your face

reading some of the responses, I'm thinking 'no wonder we have wars'

no thought...just knee jerk responses

one word off and out they come waving pitchforks and carrying torches

no wonder my dad told me to stay away from crowds. it's my natural tendency anyway

As to our present experience, I would say for Christians, and Conservatives that if ever there was a time to vote straight ticket, this November this is the time. Every Democrat you put in office is against and will destroy what you believe in.

That's handy. You don't need to obey the Constitution because you come under a 'higher law'. This 'higher law' gives you the right to steal from others. But of course the South was the outlaw for obeying the Constitution.

This is not a topic on slavery. If you want to argue slavery, start another topic.

If you read post (#1) you will see that secession was offered as a way of avoiding war and keeping the peace. You will see that I said we are already on our way to war and some form of secession should be considered to allow people to live under the form of government they want. Because the country is so divided, neither wants to live under the others form of government.

I'm not sure what you mean. In the U.S. we are already divided. As a Christian I live in this country and so participate in the elections. The divisions is so stark that I cannot see how a Christian can even vote democrat. The Democratic party has become the home of everything which is against Jesus Christ.

Thus my encouragement for all to vote Republican straight ticket this coming election.

The War between the States is a never ending issue in the South, because the Northern Federal government continues to wage war against us. They use the blacks and liberals as violent threats as they tear down our monuments and flags. Then when we protest, they get upset and say, 'why can't yall just let the war go'. They are the ones that can't let it go.

Now, concerning secession, can we learn anything from that war? Yes we can. The South wanted to secede peacefully. They were not trying to go to war. A peaceful secession would have averted that War. But the north would not allow it.

The rumblings and thunder of that war were heard several years before it actually began. Just like we hear the same today. The politics were divided right down the political line just like they are today. In other words, people better wake up and learn from history. If some peaceful form of secession is not allowed, war is inevitable.

We are not united. And the things which divide are too opposing to ever bridge.

it seems history repeats itself and even Solomon for all his wisdom was his own worst enemy

what I see and what I saw this past week, and I'm not alone, was a party ready to kill to get their way and a spineless party with a small majority trying to play politics

I do not for one moment believe any sort of division of this country, physical, will happen because it will not be allowed anymore than it was the first time

and we just recently had the California trifecta split that went over like a lead balloon

it's too late regarding the liberals...that genie is not going back in the bottle so you are right on that

If you don't like the USA government, you can always try another form. I hear that there are openings in Russia, Iran, Syria, China, and South Africa.

Feel free to go to any other nation of your choice.

What would happen if there’s a secession? Two, or maybe three or four countries within the next five years? Countries with limited resources, and most likely bitter enemies.

The Czar over in Russia would be extremely pleased with that. The Chinese as well. Not to mention Iran.

This time threatening the Union isn’t a domestic matter, it matters to the entire world.

The free world needs to stand united against the evil powers of the world. We can’t allow ourselves to let first world problems destroy our ability to defend our country and our allies.
