While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
We see, those disciples got water baptized after being indwelled by the Holy Spirit, not the other way. Does God change? I think not.
But, it seems like you could not speak in tongues without water baptism. I could be wrong but this passage seems to teach that the spiritual gifts are received with water baptism.
Some people do not receive the Spirit until after water baptism.
Which they will receive the Spirit when they submit to the Lord, which repentance is to repent of past sins, and hate sin, and do not want sin, and want to turn away from sins.
We know repentance comes before water baptism, or receiving the Spirit.
But the Bible says that some people have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, and it points out their sins, and they are lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, which they like to enjoy worldliness.
Which these people did not understand that they have to abstain from sins to be right with God, but thought they were alright despite holding unto sin.
They had a form of godliness, for the labored for the kingdom, showed somewhat a godly lifestyle, but repented of their sins of the past, and sins they did, but held unto some sins and thought they were right with God.
And there are many like that who do not understand that sin does affect their relationship with God, and by the Spirit they can abstain from sins, but they deny the power thereof and enjoy sins.
But the Bible says the Lord knows them that are His having this seal, for this is what seals the saints, and how they are led of the Spirit, that everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
That is why Jesus said not everyone that says Lord, Lord, will be able to enter heaven, for they did not do the will of the Father, and that they were workers of iniquity.
A person will receive the Spirit when they submit to the Lord, which sin separates us from God, but some Churches do not preach that sin does affect their relationship with God, producing many that have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof.
They say they cannot abstain from sins, and sin daily, and sin does not affect their relationship with God, which they testify against themselves they do sin, and many hold unto sin for they think they cannot beat it.
But it is not that they cannot abstain from sin, but they want to enjoy sin, and then have an excuse for it, for nobody forced them to sin, and when they sin they enjoyed the sin, so they did it on purpose.
But the Bible says if they willingly sin after having the knowledge of sin there is no more sacrifice for sin, which many hold unto sin and the blood of Christ cannot wash it away for God will not take away something they hold unto to.
Their interpretation of the Bible is flesh oriented to where they can enjoy the things of the flesh and still be right with God.
They will justify war, and fighting, and God blesses them with money and material things for their wants, and has nothing to do with their needs, and enjoy worldly entertainment, movies, and television shows, and music, and justify drinking alcohol, and marijuana, and things that pertain to the flesh.
And think they are still right with God and it does not affect their salvation, but the Bible says abstain from fleshy lusts that war against the soul.
But then they are led of the flesh and not the Spirit, and we are only saved if we are led of the Spirit.
They say their sin does not affect their relationship with God, and despite their sins want to think they are led of the Spirit and clean inside, but Jesus said what is inside is what will come out, for out of the heart comes their true identity, which if they sin thinking that they are still saved when they sin then that is what is in them, then how are they clean inside.
Many people do not receive the Spirit for they do not preach the holiness of God in their Church.
A person will receive the Spirit when they submit to the Lord, and sin separates us from God.
Many are called, but few are chosen, and no person says Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost, and many people are not chosen for they fall short of receiving the truth in their life, although God is working with them.
