Slightly overdue post. I was at the Phil. Global Missions day of prayer recently, and reminded of lands and peoples to reach personally, or through prayer. Indonesia is one country where we have some missionaries, and it needs us. In particular, Sulawesi is an island, home to 19 Muslim unreached, unengaged people groups, with a spider-like shape with dense mountain forests. Its various tribes have retained much of their heritage of folk beliefs and practices, and has need for education and health services... It is open to receive persons skilled in agriculture, business, and education.

"I remember the first time I went to Indonesia. It was during the recovery and rebuilding phase after the 2004 tsunami in Aceh. We travelled for 12 hours through rough roads, but I didn’t see a single church.

There were only ruins and people stricken by grief and pain. I felt droplets on my hands and realized I was already crying. Then I thought, maybe the Lord will still tarry His coming, for so many even in this one place have not even heard of Him.

We started helping the people rebuild their houses. At one time, when we were painting a school building, a local teacher tearfully asked, “Why are you here? You’re a foreigner, a Christian, and we are Muslims. Why are you helping us?”

I replied that we have also experienced disasters and other persons helped us too. There was so much more I wanted to share, but at that time, painting side by side was the beginning.

As we continue to serve in Indonesia, may we ask you to join us in prayer. Please ask God for local families who will be our coworkers to be sent to other places in the country. Pray for strength, wisdom, and patience as we lead the team. We hope you would come and visit."

It’s good of you to share with us about the incredible work you are doing in Indonesia. You are to be commended for your desire to seek prayer for them. I’m standing with you, asking God to equip you, provide all the resources you need and work in a powerful way in the lives of these people. May He give you strength and guidance as you lean upon Him.

Ah i am sorry, emily. It was an anonymous letter from a field worker. So how do i correct/avoid such when i sometimes post too fast...

There are local missionaries from our denomination though=). Thanks to all who are touched to pray for the foreign missionaries, as well as the encouragers, senders, and supporters.

I put this in the prayer forum.

PALU, Indonesia -- Residents too afraid to sleep indoors camped out in the darkness Saturday while victims recounted harrowing stories of being separated from their loved ones a day after a powerful earthquake triggered a tsunami that unleashed waves as high as 20 feet, killing hundreds on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

The death toll stood at 384, with all of the confirmed fatalities coming in the hard-hit city of Palu, but it was expected to rise once rescuers were able to reach surrounding coastal areas, said disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho. He said other people were unaccounted for, without giving an estimate. The nearby cities of Donggala and Mamuju were also ravaged, but little information was available due to damaged roads and disrupted telecommunications.
