Well I have never seen a Christian abuse their authority in the bible so I can't really give an example of it but what do you mean exactly by authority? Or rather I should ask is there a particular kind of abusing of authority your thinking of that makes you ask this question?

1 Peter 4:17, "Because it is time for judgment to begin from the House of Yah. And if firstly from us, what is the end of those who do not obey the Good News of Yah?"

Luke 6:46, “But why do you call Me ‘Master, Master,’ and do not do what I say?”

Hebrews 10:26-31, “For if we sin purposely after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice offering for sins, but some fearsome anticipation of judgment, and a fierce fire which is about to consume the opponents. Anyone who has disregarded the Torah of Mosheh dies without compassion on the witness of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think shall he deserve who has trampled the Son of Yah underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was set apart as common, and insulted the Spirit of mercy? For we know Him who has said, “Vengeance is Mine, I shall repay, says יהוה.” And again, “יהוה shall judge His people. It is fearsome to fall into the hands of the living Father.”

2 Peter 2:20-22, “For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Master and Savior יהושע Messiah, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the set-apart Command delivered unto them. For them the proverb has proved true, “A dog returns to his own vomit,” (Pro 26:11) and, “A washed sow returns to her rolling in the mud.”

John/Yahanan 12:48, “He who rejects Me, and does not follow My words has One Who judges him. The word that I have spoken, the same will be used to judge him in the last day.”

John 14:23-24, "יהושע answered him, “If anyone loves Me, he shall guard My Word. And My Father shall love him, and We shall come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not guard My Words. And the Word which you hear is not Mine but of the Father Who sent Me.”

John/Yahanan 5:28-30, “Do not be astonished at this-for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice, and will come forth. Those who have practiced righteousness will be resurrected in order to live; and those who have practiced wickedness will be resurrected in order to be damned."

Mat 16:27, “For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His malakim; and then He will reward every man according to his works.”

John/Yahanan 15:5-16, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, produces much fruit; but without Me, you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch, and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and letting My words; abide in you, you will ask what you will, and it will be done for you. In this is My Father glorified: when you produce much fruit; and in this way you become My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you; continue in My love. If you keep My Commands, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's Commands, and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be complete. This is My Command: Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: that one would lay down his life on behalf of his brothers. You are My brothers, if you do whatever I command you."

Psalms 66:1-4, “Shout with joy to the Mighty One, All the earth! Sing out the splendor of His Name; Make His praise esteemed. Say to the Mighty One, “How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies pretend obedience to You. All the earth bow to You, They sing praises to You, They praise Your Name.” Selah.”

Malachi 2:17, “You have wearied יהוה with your words, and you have said, “In what way have we wearied Him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the eyes of יהוה, and He is delighting in them,” or, “Where is the Master of right-ruling?”

Jeremiah 7:9-11, “Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, vow falsely, burn incense to Baal, follow hinder gods you know nothing of, And then come and stand before Me in this House upon which My Name is called, and say; We are saved! Saved to do all these abominations? Has this House, which is called with My Name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen this! says YHWH.”

1 Peter 2:15-16, “Because such is the desire of the Mighty One, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men, as free, yet not using your freedom as a cloak for evil, but as servants of the Mighty One.”

There are a ton more verses that show we are to follow Him and do His will.

Mark 10:52, “And יהושע said to him, “Go, your belief has healed you.” And immediately he saw again and followed יהושע on the way.”

Mark 5:34, “And He said to her, “Daughter, your belief has healed you. Go in peace, and be relieved from your affliction.”

Luke 17:19, “And He said to him, “Rise, go your way. Your belief has made you well.”

John 5:14, “Afterward יהושע found him in the Set-apart Place, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, so that no worse matter befalls you.”

John 8:11, “And she said, “No one, Master.” And יהושע said to her, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.”

Anything is possible. Read up on Diotrephes (3 John 1:9), as well as the wolves who would arise from within the churches.

In terms of "control" or self interest or could one say Elijah and Elisha abused their authority
2 Kings 1:10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
2 Kings 2:23-24 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

There is no indication that God disapproved of what they did. And prophets were not within any hierarchy at all. They answered directly to the Lord, and from everything we can gather, God approved of both these men, and actually took Elijah to Heaven.

Well, they were not technically Christian, but for example Sarah.

She took a slave girl, gave her to Abraham and when the slave girl got pregnant, Sarah send her away to die in a wilderness.

Sarah:
1. Manipulated Abraham and complicated things by her unbelief
2. Abused her authority over a slave girl without any mercy.

Jesus said...you can do nothing without him....also he siad unto Pilate...you have no power over me except it be given from above..
If we are truly in Christ he is in control not us.

I understand what you’re saying but in terms of “control” can a Pastor have great influence/control over the congregation? An example would be Jim Jones in the 70’s he took the congregation to the grave. Then you had the Waco incident during the 80’s, in Australia right now, you got one flip who is confessing he is Jesus and his wife is Mary and people actually believe him (members)
I’m trying to work out how could this happen? Because they all use the Word as the bases of their belief.

Pilate was not in control.......He was allowed certain liberties but he had not a clue as to having them. He prophesied without being aware of it.

No,,,, they deceive people by twisting the Word and they build a false base for their cults... They never where and are not Christians..

How can these things happen? Delusional people with a talent for scamming and deceiving people entice some people with their faulty religious teachings.. There was something in the teachings of Jim Jones that the people who joined His cult liked and where attracted to.. In cults it takes the co-operation of the followers for the cult leader to succeed..

Sometimes it is simply a case of the followers being too lazy to open the Holy Bible and read the Gospels.. If people would just read the Gospels then 99% of these cults would never get off the ground..

yes this happens regularly

it happens when one person is put up front with no responsibility to others

note in the Bible that one man was never in charge all by himself

however, people like Jones or the Waco incident, are examples of 'leaders' of a CULT...a non-Christian, non-biblical entity wherein the Bible is misinterpreted or else USED with cherry picked verses to fool people who are not solid in their beliefs

yeah. the dude in Australia has less chance of being Jesus then a kangaroo has of becoming Prime Minister

you basically spelled out how this type of thing occurs. your last sentence:

they all use the Word as the bases of their belief

no one should USE the Bible to control others or convince others of believing they are some kind of god figure on earth

the Bible should transform our own lives from the inside out and we are supposed to be in submission to one another...not one person commanding and demanding...controlling people is of the devil

Among competent adults, there are two willing participants in every case of control. Neither may be aware of it.

Among Christians, there is an awful lot of manipulation, especially from pulpits. "Can I get an 'Amen!'" is a mild and relatively harmless form. There is much worse out there.

we won't mention the pro-manipulation done by televangelists and (cough cough) prophets who specialize in getting folks to empty their wallets for the (cough cough) ministry

so they can stay on tv of course

charlatans all

Pastors in the local church are a gift from God to the church. They are anointed to preach and teach the word of God to the souls in the local assembly. They are responsible to God for the Spiritual growth and well being of the souls in congregation. They do not have authority to lord themselves over the congregation.

If a pastor is not preaching the word and discipling saints then either he leaves or the saints leave. Each is responsible to the Lord for their actions and not the actions of others.

I'm surprised no on has mentioned the "David and Bathsheba" "affair." And David's abuse of his authority on poor Uriah!

Or, Salomon's abuse of his authority! It took God a 1,000 women, but, they "turned him!"
