This is basically a reason why it is always better to meet people in person. Well, you know what I mean people that you meet say at school, work, church and so on...

Problem is that once you're out of school and settled in a job and church that tends to be a very static group of people and most of them aren't single.

Yeah. Because people you meet in real life are much more reliable...
The issue isn't where you meet them but having the common sense to recognize when something's wrong.
Yet many scammers actually purposefully leave red flags, such as poor spelling and grammar, because they know if someone ignores it or misses it they have them hooked for sure.
Let's not forget BTK, John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy all were married, long before the internet.
Before the internet there were phone and even snail mail scams. Phone scams are still going on too.

I've met numerous people in person that I first met online. Never had a problem. I've never fallen for a scam. And someone tried catfishing me once but I knew something was wrong right away.

Well..that all sounds easy but a ton of people find love online..dating sites etc..plus..theres skype of facetime (i do this with my gbaby :))... It doesnt have the convenience or spontinaity as someone you meet in your "own back yard" but..even long distance can seem shorter with technology...

Been there..done that..i held out hope for a long time ...not anymore

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Some people, including me, learn the hard way!

I had two very attractive women send me friend requests on facebook. (Im not bragging! - or maybe I am... who cares) They were total strangers. I checked out the first one's profile and she seemed very legit. She had candid pics and didn't look like she was trying to impress anyone.... I was unsure if I should accept her request or not... So I came on here and made that thread about "Do you accept facebook friend requests from strangers" https://christianchat.com/christian...uests-from-strangers-on-facebook-poll.177814/....

So I decided to accept her request. She seemed legit. She didn't try to scam me or even contact me. I have no idea why she wanted to be friends. We had no common friends. Anyway....after like a week I just felt weird about it and unfreinded her :(

Then there was the other attractive woman who just sent me a request recently. Now mind you, I have been on facebook for several years and these are the only 2 times I got requests from attractive women that were complete strangers to me. Anyway.... I checked out her profile and it was empty, and she only had a few friends so my super sleuth instinct instantly realized that if she really was that attractive she'd probably have about a thousand friends! So I declined..

So what does this have to do with anything? I don't know.

That's why I'm glad I'm ugly and poor. If I were pretty and/or rich I would never know if my "friends" were really friends, or if they were just wanting something. We ugly, poor people can trust our friends. Nobody is going to be friends with me to get something, because I ain't got money or looks. A friend of mine is a REAL friend.
