Or can you play an instrument? Or write music?

I grew up playing the guitar, and I know the basics of playing the drums (I can hold a beat).

What do you play? :)
I am a singer and songwriter! I produce all my music electronically, so I guess the instrument I play is my computer, haha!

Awesome. Feel free to post some links here for us to listen to. There’s already some who have done so, but you’ll have to scroll through the thread :)

Lol @computer, I guess that’s technology now :)

Sweet, didn't know what the vibe on here was with "self promotion." Here's a link to my youtube channel where I post my music along with some other content :) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClwcHo2kNt93QbEuX1sXMdQ

Sorry, now I see you had already posted a link. The song is very beautiful and you're a great singer. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the electronic drum beat, but this is because I'm from the Beatles and Beach Boys generation -- it's not your fault.

Haha, thanks! And yeah, my music is more targeted towards a younger audience... though I lot of older people like my rendition of Amazing Grace while singing in a grain bin :).

I must have missed this thread! I have been a professional musician, playing and singing in bars, concerts and doing a lot of recording. I play flute and sax, although sax is hard on my hands they are deforming so much. I have a very expensive solid silver flute, even it is getting hard to play. I have had to plug up all but 2 of the holes.

I used to play classical guitar, but I am better with wood winds. I taught band for a couple of years, I had to learn all the instruments. There is a lot in common with the fingering, although the embrasure can be very different.

I switched to teaching elementary music, learned recorder (I have 5 of them, from tiny sopranino to tenor!) and then ukulele! I have 3 or 4 of those. One son learned violin, but he outpaced me rapidly. I took piano lessons, but started too late. I can play anything on the flute, classical, jazz, folk, reading or improvising, I could never master that in the piano

I have continued to play flute and sing in church worship teams, 38 years now. My voice got damaged with an RA nodule, but I still get by, and can do harmonies.

I really love music, I hope I am allowed to continue to play flute and sing, after I die! Praise the Lord, he is good!

Hi Angela, thanks for sharing - what an awesome testimony you have there about music! Praise God that He still uses you! I believe worship is the best thing ever - it draws us to God closer. Even if you’re not a musician, the worship of music sound and lyrics, combined come together to really touch our spirit in thanks to God!

I didn’t know you could play all those as well.

Have you ever tried the oboe?

I borrowed one for about a month to try, I got a few tunes out of it, the fingering
is similar to flute and sax, but it really needed a proper oboe teacher. Very hard to
get the breathing technique. It needs so little air but lots of air pressure,
so you end up having to breathe out all the unused air before you can breathe
back in. The timing of that can be tricky.

Plus it’s impossible to play if you have any kind of cold, even a mild one.

I gave up after a month but probably needed a specialised teacher rather than
trying to teach myself.

I worked on oboe a bit when I was teaching band. But really hard to get a decent sound with the double reed. The beginning oboe students all sounded like quacking ducks. I love a well played oboe. But I have no idea how anyone gets to that point. The band teacher I worked with, said he had yet to have a student stick with oboe.
