When Jesus defeated the powers of darkness and sin on the cross, He purchased forgiveness and reconciliation with God. We haven't yet received our full reward but we have the guarantee of salvation and eternal paradise. We continue to wrestle against our flesh until we die, then we will finally be free of sin and temptation.
Christ gave us all the weapons we need to become conquerors, but we must fight the good fight. So take heart and go into the battle with all guns blazing and you shall overcome the flesh with His help.
So I have to fight a battle that's already been won?

Also, how do I know what those weapons are?

Why do I have to wrestle the rest of my life if I am the "son" of the "king"?

Why are the Pauline epistles so contradictory to the gospels in regards to sin?

Yes, Jesus has defeated the curse of the law on the cross, but we are instructed to pick up our cross daily and follow Him. He did not say all would be easy, but it is all worth efforts like His.

We are never to just lay back and receive only we are expected to do the works of God.........read the Bible and learn this.

I'm curious as to why you would not be allowed to say, "law" ?

I think a lot of confusion concerning the teachings of Christ arise because people may try to navigate what they've been taught in their church and have it comport with what Jesus taught through his words.
Martin Luther was one that said, “Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly.”

I've met some who think this dismisses eternal salvation because it imparts the idea we can be redeemed in Christ and yet continue to sin as we will because we are always saved.
Salvation is what Jesus said it is. All else is false.
All too many who come into the forums confuse obedience with being "under the law." They are not even aware of what they are saying,but in order to be in reference only to those laws Jesus teaches we should obey, I say to obey Jesus........Who, by the way, teaches the law is not abolished..it is fulfilled and being fulfilled. That is not a futile or difficult lesson to learn fro those who are truly grateful to Him for Hi gift of Salvation.

As fosr Martin Luther, I cannot abide by the teaching of a man responsible for the death of thousands due to his influence. Jesus does not have this influence on anyone, not even on world leaders........that tendency comes from the flesh. What causes wars among you? You covet and cannot obtain, simply put and true........

Do you realize that those are contradictory statements?

What about Matthew 5:17-20??

Then read Galatians 3:1-7

If you still think those 2 passages agree, you will have to doctor it quite a bit to make it work.

Any noob would be perplexed, unless of course ignorant people are not meant to know the "truth".

Read and know all of the New Testament. If it sounds wrong or difficult it is not the Good News, it is your interpretation.

Doyou realize oft times the Word may sound contradictory, again, this is because one is seeing with deceptive vision.........not of God.

Are you not concerned more with the meat of the Gospel? Like Peter when the cock crew, we are all weak, and it is impossible for a man to ransom his own soul yet our Father declares to us, "You will be perfect for I your God am perfect." Now how can this be? Is thiis a commadment? I believe it is a promise......we become perfect in His sight when we believe His son, but the work He began in us will not becomplete until He finishes that work, and we will all be just as Jesus, we will not be He but we will be just like He.

If yo like making up riddles, write a book on riddles. Other than you off-the-wall interrogations, I will continue as I have, reading the Word for these past many decades.

Jesus gave me "instructions" and a "preview" of what I was to expect, and since that day (night) in 1969 I have not been surprised a lot in what has transpired since.

It is not really feasible to share it with others for it was just for me. It is certain you have the same type of preparation directly from Him. I believe al who have come to Jesus know this........God blessyou and your walkwith our Lord always.

Romans6 verse is a great example of errant teaching that breeches context.
Romans 6 was not a teaching to the Ekklesia.
The epistle to the Romans was written for the Church (or Ekklesia, if you prefer):

  • "Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, to all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Rom 1.1,7).
It's only one truth:

  • "To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: but unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; " (Rom 2.7-9).
  • "Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." (1Cor 6.8-10).

Our faith shouldn't be based on what someone is able or not to do, but on what Jesus has promised to do in the life of one who believes in Him as He has promised in the Holy Scripture.

Did not expect an honest answer.
The answer is honest. The question is that it suggests a lack of willingness to live that which is good and right before the Eternal One, which according to the Holy Scripture is possible through Jesus:

  • "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Rom 8.3,4).
  • "But I say, Walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Gal 5.16).
  • "And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." (1John 3.5-9).
  • "We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not." (1John 5.18).
After all, as the sister OstrichSmilin quoted well:

"The one speaking from himself is seeking his own glory. But the One seeking the glory of the One having sent Him— this One is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him." John 7:18
Therefore, instead of speaking of me, I should speak only of Jesus and His Scripture.
