11 And the inhabitants of Jabis Galaad hear what the Philistines did to Saul.
12 And they rose up, every man of might, and marched all night, and took the body of Saul and the body of Jonathan his son from the wall of Baethsam; and they bring them to Jabis, and burn them there.
13 And they take their bones, and bury them in the field that is in Jabis, and fast seven days.

1Sam 31

Burning of bodies was nothing especially pagan or against God.

They were not able to burn the bones, though. It needs higher temperatures. So they buried them.

I’m certain you will have genuine people grieving for you when your
time comes. Hopefully that will be a long way off.
Thank you! Sometimes I am afraid of no one showing up in my funeral. Do I really have friends that care? That's why I want a flat stone and a grave that doesn't need a lot of care. I don't want to be a burden. And to whom? My sister? My mother? My son? My mother is getting old, my sister doesn't care and my son think of me as his enemy.

I shouldn't care. Because I just want to go home to be with my Heavenly Father. Finally at peace. Finally no worries or limitations of the body. Just free to praise and worship Him.

And I certainly didn't expect to react emotionally to this. I don't fear death. I fear being abandoned and rejected by people and most of all by God.

I want to be buried traditionally. It feels unbiblical to be cremated. But it is just a feeling, and where do I go when I am not certain? The BDF! I know for sure you guys will give me the answer.
In the Torah, only violators of the Law of Moses are burned.

but you should instead preparing for the coming of the Savior with living the Christian life in the bible. who knows you might be one of the believers who will be caught up to the clouds to reign with Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) and never taste death.

I use to think the same. No husband no children, no grandparents, no parents.
My brothers are 10 years older than me now in their 60s. They visit but not
in a close bothered way.

I’ve often thought that once my aunt passes away, that’s it, nothing else
to do that’s worth anything apart from continue to grow old on my own.

Recently I’ve had a rethink. Several Christian friends have been struck down by
severe illness and a couple have died. One dear sister in Christ I have known since
I was 11. She and her husband had no children and her family are in Italy, only a
couple of her family could make it to the UK to the funeral.

But you know what. It was a massive funeral, almost 300 people turned up
and gave testimony to the wonderful lady she was and how she had impacted on
their life. It wasn’t a funeral as such it was a thanksgiving service for her life.

She touched so many lives and most of us didint even know it.

I’m in a strange position now of helping her husband he is in his 70s and in a
wheelchair due to cancer.

I’m also in contact with another man nearing his 80s whose wife had a stroke.
Plus others.

No matter what position we are in. We still make an impact on other people’s
lives. People aren’t good at expressing thanks face to face or saying how much a
person means to them. Just because people don’t say it to you, it doesn’t mean they
don’t care.

One other thing. You mention your son, it’s never too late to reconcile.
One of my brothers hadn’t seen my aunt in years due to a fall out. When she
got real I’ll and we thought she would die in 2015. He was heart broken and
is now a changed person, He now understands the value of her more than
ever.

Thank you for sharing this.
I agree that sometimes your impact go further that what could be predicted.

Yesterday I told a friend how two teachers influenced me, and still do, and one of them made the first push so that I later got saved. I was just one of many hundred pupils for both of them, but they shaped me to be the Christian woman I am today. They probably don't know or remember me. But God used them. Sometimes I pray God can use me in a similar way with my students or the people I meet.

Anyway. It is not about collecting followers to myself, but for Christ and to follow Him faithfully.

You do well. Cremation doesn't delight Jesus:

  • "Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: but I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet: " (Amos 2.1,2).

I don't believe it matters how you are buried. You want be there anymore.
You're gonna have to prove that, and prove why it matters to God whether we're buried or cremated.

Would those who honored and loved Saul defile his dead body ?
1 Samuel 31:12
All the valiant men arose and went all night and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.

Genesis 3:19
By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

There is no prohibition against cremation in the new testament.

"What does the Bible say about cremation" - via/ The Cremation Institute.
Yeah, I know. There's a Cremation Institute?

13 Bible verses creatures returning to dust
Lots of wisdom to be gleaned in the passage below. And especially as relates to that which pertains to eternal salvation. And those who believe they must work to stay saved.

Ecclesiastes 12

1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

2While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

3In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

4And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

5Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

6Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

7Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

8Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

9And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

10The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

11The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

12And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

13Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Did you know that ash is not dust? Gen 3:19 does NOT say "to ash you shall return". That is sufficient. And what is already revealed does not have to be repeated by God.

Maybe take the time to find out what ashes to ashes and dust to dust mean in Biblical terms.
There is no prohibition in the new testament against cremation.

Since Moab was punished exclusively and severely for having practiced a cremation, then this proves how the Eternal abhors such a practice.

The Eternal One makes no exception of persons, nor takes a bribe (Deut 10.17; 16.19; 1Chr 19.7; Act 10.34; Rom 2.11; Eph 6.9; Col 3.25).

By the way: we must never forget this:

  • "But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons." (Col 3.25).

We must always keep in mind the way in which we want to be treated:

  • "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." (Mat 7.12).
