not even that

it's not even that

you see some forget what they say in the past on this thread b ut after sometime not respnding to a person they innerject themselves back into the conversation which is a good :)

it's like they can't help themselves they say
Its not that you won't prove your claims, its that you can't prove your claims and this is the testimony that condemns your claims as bogus. Do not hide behind the "no one has to prove anything to you" excuse. Jesus proved His claims with physical evidence when asked, now you do the same.

Testimony offered as proof of claims of on-going physcial events is both childish and disingenuous.

Label my words as insults if you wish but the truth is not on your side.
"
This doesn't seem right. Is there a copy problem? It seems to be multiple quotes with completely different subjects.

No one need prove anything but they ought to be able to support it from the bible. I cannot see that God is hiding His truth from us. We have the Holy Spirit to lead us into Gods truth.

Gods word is the final authority on truth. The Holy Spirit confirms the truth in Gods word. Thunder and lightening is not required to prove Gods word. Earthquakes and floods do not prove Gods word.

The perfect came long time ago.
I saw it when raising the dead ceased; not only that but healing also ceased- patience and perseverance is asked of us.
It is the same spirit that raised the dead then, now you are trying to reduce the spirit of God to speaking unknown words- if you accept that raising the dead ceased, then everything else ceased.
What complete rubbish.
When did raising the dead cease?
When did miracles and healings cease?

News to me and a million others.

My question is verse 9, how does someone utter by tongues, words easy to be understood?

What you are trying to say is that they utter difficult words to understand and then interpret, that's not what Paul says. Paul has insisted on speaking intelligible words, a work being done even by lifeless objects like piano and trumpets.

Verse 2 speaks of unknown tongue that edifies the speaker only- this doesn't mean that the speaker doesn't know what they are saying. The fact they are personally edified means that they know what they are saying and thus get edified because only them understand. And chapter 12 clearly says that gifts are not given for private purposes but to edify the church- so Paul was still against personal edification.
"9 So likewise " this is speaking about what was just said in verse 8 to 6.

9 So likewise ye, except ye utter(speak) by the tongue(language) words easy to be understood,(what was said) how shall it be known what is spoken?( for ye shall speak into the air. there has to be an intreperation

yes it does unless there is an interpretation as it says in verse 5 1cor 14. Remember tongues and interpretation = prophecy or Prophesying which is speaking under the inspiration. Must line up with the word of God. Remember they only had the Old Testament. We do not even have record of what have said in tongues & interpretation . We only are given what to do and how it is to be used.

I am assuming you speak in tongues in your own quiet time and perhaps in church also? When the gifts are manifest in public may I ask if an interpreter is present?
YES
At our worship meetings (when the Church comes together) we operate the three voice gifts of the Holy Spirit
decently and in order as instructed in 1Corinthians 14:
diversity of tongues followed by interpretation (up to 3 times)
then up to 3 gifts of prophecy

God in communion with his Spirit-filled church.

Apart from the voice gifts in Church meetings ALL our members are baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit with
the Bible evidence of speaking in a new tongue ( or in tongues as some would say).

Why is interpretation required in Corinthians when the spontaneous tongues spoken in Acts were known in the ears of the hearers? God does not change, correct?

Roger
you are looking at the event in Acts 2 from what is being done in 1cor 12, 13, and 14. The tongues used in Acts 2 were for a specific reason Jesus said in Acts 1:8 to receive power to be a witnesses . you have to take into account also what happen after Acts 2.

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are given for the building up of the church to all as the Holy Spirit sees best. .
Now there was no need for an interpretation if one was prophesying.

Read I Corinthians 12-14 (especially Ch. 14). It is very clear from Paul's writing here that the gift of prophecy is superior and is preferred to the gift of tongues. Speaking in tongues is not to be forbidden and does have its proper place, but it needs to follow the guidelines given in I Cor. 14.
I do not see it is superior . Is that word even used ?

Seems to me that those who don't hold a "tongues today" view have short life span here on CC. Is this the norm ?

God does not change. New converts spoke in tongues. They were spontaneous and understood by those standing near them. God never tells us that tongues changed.

Perhaps that is why Paul is reprimanding the Corinthians.

Tongues without understanding are unfruitful. Tongues spoken without understanding are like speaking into the air. Tongues not understood are self edifying. Simply does not add up. Perhaps self edification is more akin to ego than to Spiritual growth? Just wondering. LOL

"God does not change " what was the context I am God I change not. NOW you try to Box God in my His own words ? Please

Maiachi
3:6 " For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. " this had to do about Gods Holiness and HIS stands against what verse 5 said to which God is saying I have never changed concerning these sins what does verse 5 say?

:5 "And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witnessagainst the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.

FYI this was said to the Preist .

I guess that makes some kind of sense to you but God still hasn't changed. His word has not changed and His Holy Spirit has not changed. Man is changeable but God is not.

The same Holy Spirit in Acts is the same Holy Spirit in Corinthians, correct? Same Holy Spirit at Pentecost as the Holy Spirit today.

God is still God. I'm still wo

as someone who has been here for some time ( I had another ID prior to this one so actually here longer than it may seem) I can attest that what you say above is just another jab at those who have a different experience than you do

ask Roger...he has been here longer than I have and he has consistently taken an opposing view on tongues

he and I agree on a good number of things but not this issue

but he has probably had more to say against tongues than ANYONE in this forum

I would say people get banned because of their OVERALL demeanor and after being warned to change said behavior. maybe other things too

think about it
