Praise His Name!
I woke up this morning at 6:30 AM which is customary on my days off. I had to adjust my work schedule due to financial concerns so for the past few weeks I have been working Wednesday through Sunday instead of my usual Thursday through Sunday. Next week the 4th of July comes on a Wednesday so I will have my usual 3 days off in a row. After that, I will probably work a 5 day schedule every other week until fall when I will reassess my financial situation.
Hopefully, I will retire within the next 2 years. I have been working for the 'man' since I was 17 and the grind of surviving in the workplace has drained me. At that time that I hang it up we will probably sell our home in Florida and move to Tennessee. I lived there for 3 years in the early 80's when I was in the army and my wife lived there for a couple years in the 70's so we are very familiar with the state.
There is no state income tax there or a tax on pension or Social Security, the same as Florida so it is a very friendly environment for retirees. Very scenic too and we will be able to enjoy the change of seasons once again. Right now the only change of seasons that we have are hot and hotter. We are into the hotter right now. Besides that we are sick of the traffic as the population of Florida has almost doubled since I relocated here in 1985.
Really, the only intersting things I have done while living in Florida is to go to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios a zillion times. I did this when I lived in the suburbs of Orlando and the drive was about an hour away. People come from all over the world to come to Orlando and it was kind of neat that all the attractions were right next door to me.
Mostly, since I have lived in Florida I have worked and have actually seen very little of the state besides Orlando and Tampa / St. Petersburg where I now live. The furthest south I have been is Sarasota, never seen the Everglades, Miami or the Florida Keys. Kind of sad really. I can't say that I will miss this state.
I need a change in my life. It's time to move on.
