Hi everyone, I became a Christian at a early age and like a lot of people I became a on and off Christian. GOD finally got my attention and I have been faithfully focusing on my salvation and learning more about my relationship with Him for over a year now. I had been previously been serving in another church before backsliding for some years, as deacon , ss director, usher, teacher anything I could find But I realize now that I wasn't doing it for GOD, I was doing it to be seen. for my glory not His. Now I am in a new smaller church and all positions are filled. not that I am sure that I want a position. But I do feel like I need, I want to be serving GOD not just worshiping. I just would like to find the purpose in my life.

Hello MrH59, welcome to CC. I hope you'll enjoy your stay here. It is admirable that you would want to serve in your local congregation. We must learn to be patient and wait on the Lord, otherwise it is just our flesh serving Him.

Praise God brother, I think you are doing exactly what God wants you to be doing right now. I think the positions in your church might all be filled right now for a reason. As long as you are focusing on Him and letting Him guide you then you can trust Him to reveal your purpose at that time. I have only been in Christ for right at 5 years and He is just starting to put opportunities in front of me like I've never seen before. I don't want to give the wrong impression, I'm not talking about leading a church, or anything crazy like that, but I do go minister to the inmates at my local jail, I have been doing that a little better than a year now. I now "share a word", at a retirement home every second Sunday as well. The coolest thing recently is He guided me to a ministry that has a Saturday night fellowship right in the middle of town, on the main drag, outside for all to hear. I love it, but in the next couple week I get to testify of His glory in my life, while sharing the good news for all to hear. He amazes me more every day.

I just share that to say keep seeking Him, keep learning all you can about Him and He will have you where you need to be at the right time. Thanks for sharing brother, I always love hearing of His power in others lives.

thanks brother, that is encouraging. I have thought about retirement homes. I bet they could probably teach me something.

While I admire your desire to serve in your church in some capacity please be aware that most of God's work is done outside of a church setting. You can serve God in your job, in the home or even going to the grocery store. Serving in a 'higher' calling does not necessarily mean you have to be a pastor or a deacon or a missionary. A higher calling from God is to simply perform faithfully and diligently the work that your Heavenly Father has prepared for you to accomplish beforehand.

You are right in believing that it is wrong to serve God for the purpose of being seen or receiving the praise of others. As far as worshiping is concerned you can do this at any time, even in doing the most mundane or seemingly trivial tasks such as doing the dishes. Be sure to clean them thoroughly though using hot sudsy water, dry them and put them in their proper place. After that you can take out the trash or whatever is next in your daily routine. Be sure to be disciplined in whatever you do doing your best in a timely fashion.

Your purpose in life is the same as mine. To humbly serve God with love in your heart, and treating those that God sends your way kindly and with compassion, mercy and also forgiveness if they happen to cause you harm or strife.

Stay close to God, study His word and apply what He has taught you in your day to day life.

Hopefully, you will find comfort, support and understanding from the members of this site. I pray also that you will be a productive servant of the Lord, such as I am striving to be and there are many others as well. There are many different types of warriors in the army of God and I am sure that God will show you what kind of soldier that He expects you to become.

Glad to have you as a member of our family. Welcome to CC.

Hi MrH59, welcome to CC :)

You'll find the place the Lord has for you at church in His time. Until then, what could possibly be better than continuing to sit at His feet? .. cf Luke 10:38-42

God bless you!

~Deut

.........Numbers 6
.........24 The LORD bless you and keep you;
.........25 The LORD make His face shine upon you,
.........And be gracious to you;
.........26 The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
.........And give you peace.
