According to the text, David was on the roof, not Bathsheba. He was being a pervert. She did nothing wrong. Nathan tells David, he is the man!

Poor Bathsheba, but she is in the genealogy of Jesus. đź’– A lot of people are going to feel bad when they meet her in Heaven because they maligned her.
yeah she is in the genealogy of Jesus but let's just call her a tart and ignore all that or the fact that she was most likely not naked

I mean honestly! grrrr LOL!

How do you take a bath with clothes on? Also, If she didn't have adultery on her mind, why didn't she defer going to the palace alone without a trusted male escort. Realistically, she probably knew why David was requesting her presence (or should have) because males don't just out of the blue request to see a woman whose husband is away unless something unsavory is in mind. Let's please be realistic about human nature, both male and female.

Rahab was a whore and is in the genealogy of Christ.

And it came to pass toward evening, that David arose off his couch, and walked on the roof of the king’s house, and saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
3 And David sent and enquired about the woman: and [one] said, [Is] not this Bersabee the daughter of Eliab, the wife of Urias the Chettite?
4 And David sent messengers, and took her, and went in to her, and he lay with her: and she was purified from her uncleanness, and returned to her house.
5 And the woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

2 Sam 11

BTW, the murder of her husband was planned after she sent a message to David that she is pregnant. If there was no child of their adultery, her husband could live.

What is also quite evident is that what happened was not hidden from people. Tuns of people knew about it and she even stayed by David until she was purified.

Maybe king could do whatever he wanted? Maybe Urias knew.

David wasn't a rapist. Bathsheba gave occasion to sin.
At best, she should be wise. Yet I believe that, deep down, she wanted to be seduced by the king.
Where does it say this in Gods word?

No need for this thread to be deleted - David's reprobate behavior should be discussed more often.

We all need the saving grace of Jesus. It just shows how real and how human
were the great men and women of the bible. There go I but for the grace of God.

Adam, the first man, was a blame shifter who couldn’t resist peer pressure. (Genesis 3:12)

Eve, the first woman, couldn’t control her appetite and, should we say, had the first eating disorder? (Genesis 3:6)

Cain, the first born human being, murdered his brother. (Genesis 4:8)

Noah, the last righteous man on earth at the time, was a drunk who slept in the nude. (Genesis 9:20-21)

Abraham, the forefather of faith, let other men walk off with his wife on two different occasions. (Genesis 12 and 20)

Sarah, the most gorgeous woman by popular opinion, let her husband sleep with another woman and then hated her for it. (Genesis 16)

Lot, who lost his father early in life, had a serious problem with choosing the wrong company. (Genesis 18-20)

Job, supposedly a contemporary of Abraham and the epitome of faith, suffered from the nagging of a faithless wife. (Job 2:9)

Isaac, who was nearly killed by his father, talked his wife into concealing their marriage. (Genesis 26)

Rebekah, the first “mail order bride,” turned out to be a rather manipulative wife. (Genesis 27)

Jacob, who out-wrestled God, was pretty much a pathological deceiver. (Genesis 25, 27, 30)

Rachel, who wrote the book on love at first sight, was a nomadic kleptomaniac. (Genesis 31:19)

Reuben, the pride and firstborn of Jacob, was a pervert who slept with his father’s concubine. (Genesis 35:21)

Moses, the humblest man on the face of the earth (Numbers 12:13), had a very serious problem with his temper. (Exodus 2, 32:19; Numbers 20:11)

Aaron, who watched Jehovah triumph over Pharaoh, formed an abominable idol during an apparent episode of attention deficit disorder or perhaps colossal amnesia. (Exodus 32)

Miriam, the songwriter, had sibling jealousy and a greed for power. (Numbers 12)

Samson, who put Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura to shame, was hopelessly enmeshed with a disloyal wife—and ended up taking his own life. (Judges 16)

Eli, who ruled over Israel, was a hopelessly incapable father who lost his sons to immorality—and to an untimely death. (1 Samuel 2, 4)

Saul, the first and powerful king of Israel, was apparently a psychotic with manic bursts of anger, episodes of deep depression and traces of paranoia, too. He committed suicide. (1 Samuel 16, 18, 19, 31)

David, the friend of God, concealed his adultery with a murder. (2 Samuel 11)

Solomon, the wisest man in the world, was arguably the world’s greatest sex addict with 1,000 sexual partners. (1 Kings 11)

With rare exception, all the kings that followed Solomon had mammoth issues in their lives.

Hosea, an incredibly forgiving man, grappled with the pain of a wife who could be described as a nymphomaniac.

The prophets, even as they spoke for God, struggled with impurity, depression, unfaithful spouses and broken families.

Bathsheeba's too. If the law had been upheld she would have been stoned to death.

If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you. Deuteronomy 22:23-24

How dumb can people be to not consider that she probably knew David was watching her and showed him a little skin to entice him. She knew the palace overlooked her rooftop. A discrete woman wouldn't have allowed anyone to see her naked. They were both at fault. It happens all of the time - it's called adultery.
David was on the roof, not Bathsheba. He was looking at a woman bathing. No, she had no earthly idea the king was on the roof spying on her. What was she supposed to do? Just not take a bath. Apparently she was on her period, so she had to bathe.

Bathing is not seducing a man. It is just being clean.

Please, calm down.

That "pervert" David is also in the genealogy of Jesus and will also be in heaven.

Also, I have no idea why you must play this game like "a lot of people will feel bad when they ....". No need for this.
I will not “calm down”.

I feel like Bathsheba is being maligned. She may have been madly in love with Uriah. The woman is on her period, so bathing herself (like the law TELLS her), the king sees her from his high vantage point and decides he wants her. He sends guards to go get her- what is she supposed to do? Refuse and maybe get killed? Then she gets pregnant (not a bad thing, a good thing), but David kills her husband.

Then, David marries her- she may have hated David, he took her without her permission AND killed her husband. If we go by Nathan’s story, Uriah loved Bathsheba very tenderly.

Her baby dies. This is very sad, BUT God is good and she has her precious Lemuel and is a VERY good mother to him because she teaches him Proverbs 31.

To paint Bathsheba as a seductress or temptress is horrible.

David was contrite, Psalm 51 shows us that. I am not saying David was not saved, he was! But none of it was Bathsheba’s fault.

Nathan did not have a word of condemnation for Bathsheba, but he did for David.

Here are some other unsavory ladies in the genealogy of Jesus- Tamar who had to pretend to be a harlot so her father-in-law would impregnate her because he did not keep his promise, Rahab who was a prostitute- but believed God and became a prostitute no more, Ruth who was a moabitess, and Bathsheba who was a rape victim.

God is very good.

The law demanded her death. Oops! I forgot you were there. Did she scream for help?
Who would help her? It is a stupid law if she had to die for not screaming “rape”. The KING took her- who would rescue? I don’t know if she screamed for help or not. Who knows?

The law would not have condemned her unless she willingly did it, abd then she would need 2 to 3 witnesses. Plus, who would go against the king to stone him and the girl?

Some people like to play the blame game

I don't know why so many are saying she was not naked, who takes a bath with their clothes on?

One thing I hadn't thought of before is that the roof had to have walls, or at least a railing. Not only is it common sense, it was put into law (Deuteronomy 22:8). If it was walls, David would have to be pretty high up- which is possible for castles.

But like I said, after the introduction of new thoughts to consider, i changed my mind, I no longer think she was trying to seduce David.

listen...go look it up like I did...bathing customs of that time for women

learn something instead of scoffing

as for the rest of your post? oh please

David was the king...not just a 'male'

thing is Bathsheba was not a prostitute so maybe don't make the comparison with Rahab. they were not on the same level of society and that meant something back then

human nature...it may surprise you to know that not all humans have sex on their minds 24/7

Joseph didn't for one

it may surprise you to know some people actually do walk away or even run away

we are not all controlled by physical urges

yeah that's right

why is it always the prostitute that is dirty? if I remember right, there are 2 people involved

men do what they do and then turn around and say the woman made them do it by what she wore or said or maybe the tilt of her head

it's nonsense
