So if you cannot buy the Holy Spirit or someone give you the Holy Spirit then the oil is ordinary olive oil.

That is what my Bible study notes say as well.

So maybe the foolish were relying on the faith of others or just part of the church.
So if they only have ordinary olive oil is it possible that then never had the real Oil in the first place?
The parable of the Ten Virgins and the one preceding it in the 24th chapter is a warning to believers not to be left behind.

Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. (Mat 24:40-42 KJV)

Obedience does not save, are you saying acts of obedience are not deeds of works?
Please explain.
When you think about being obedient to God, think about submission.
This is not good deeds, but a work of the heart.

obedience is just evidence of salvation empowered by God's help, at the end of the day as long as God says "well done my faithful servant", that should be good

or is there a particular order on how things should be done?
I believe you're on the right track, many folks here say you must obey God before you can be saved. The Bible says we are born dead in our sins so how can a spiritually dead person be obedient. I think you got it right saying that obedience is the evidence of salvation. When a person is saved, only then can the Holy Spirit work in them so they become obedient
When you think about being obedient to God, think about submission.
This is not good deeds, but a work of the heart.
"A work of the heart", "for the heart of man is wicked above all things, who is to know it". I hear alarm bells when someone mentions the heart.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1Jn 1:9 KJV)

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Php 4:7 KJV)

That is why I continually tell you that your "bias" is so that you can "falsely claim" a verse to say what you want it to say; that is bad interpretation and leads to bad applications such as your; "you can lose your salvation."

When the bible is silent about an issue; like the 5 virgins without oil, then we should be silent; this is "Rules of interpretation 101." Do not try to make the bible say something that it is not, you are barking up the wrong tree.
Here is your critical mistake; "Obviously salvation CAN be lost." This is a lie from the devil.

A true born again believer cannot lose their, "Eternal Salvation" because the bible say's so, read your bible.
You need to "unlearn" this garbage theology whoever taught you in the first place, it is wrong.

John10:28
I give them eternal life, "and they shall never perish"; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

True Gospel Folks
Hi Mailman, I'm willing to listen and learn, but where does obedience apply to our salvation when Jesus tells us to believe.

John6:28,29
28) Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
29) Jesus replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.”…
DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE ONE WHOM GOD HAS SENT BY BEING DISOBEDIENT TO HIS COMMANDS?

DO YOU BELIEVE MANMADE DOCTRINES MORE THAN GOD'S TEACHINGS?

John 14:23-24 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

1 John 2:3-6 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

THOSE WHO CLAIM TO KNOW HIM YET DOES NOT DO WHAT HE SAYS ARE LIARS.

THE REASON THEY WOULD NOT SUBMIT TO GOD'S LAWS AND COMMANDS IS BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO GIVE YP ALL THEY HAVE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Matthew 10:37-39 “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Matthew 19:16-26 Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” “Which ones?” the man inquired. Jesus replied, “‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

"WHY DO YOU CALL ME LORD,LORD, AND DO NOT DO WHAT I SAY?"

1 Timothy 6:3-5 Love of Money If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

Starting in Matthew 24:45 through Matthew 25:30 give us the context for what Jesus says about the Day of Judgement and those who will be standing before His throne.

These examples in the parable were about His servants.

14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey...

19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’

26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.

29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and nashing of teeth.’

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Matthew 25

All those standing before His throne on the Day of Judgement are His people who were given the responsibility of stewarding His Life and love within them.

Those among His people who were faithful, and demonstrated love will be blessed and they will inherit the kingdom of God.

Those among His people who were unfaithful and do not demonstrate love will hear these words from Him:

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ Matthew 25

These did not inherit the kingdom of God.

Is confessing Jesus as Lord a work?

You must have trouble reading.

You go ahead and keep teaching people it’s ok to disobey the Gospel.

  • on those who do not obey the gospel

in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

Do you believe those who are "punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord", are saved?

JPT

SO when are you going to start really reading our posts, instead of just skimming over them, and just posting in reply with your presuppositions that are in error?

NEVER HAVE WE SAID IT IS OKAY TO DISOBEY HIM.

Now I must ask, WHAT IS THE GOSPEL TO YOU?

I have a feeling that you have included in that an bunch of errors too.

HE SAVED US BY HIS GRACE AND MERCY AS A FREE GIFT. IT SAYS SO, AND THAT IS SALVATION.

Romans 6:23 (ASV)
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 4:4-5 (HCSB)
4 Now to the one who works, pay is not considered as a gift, but as something owed.
5 But to the one who does not work, but believes on Him who declares the ungodly to be righteous, his faith is credited for righteousness.

If you think that your SALVATION hinges on something you must do, instead of SOLELY on HIS GRACE AND MERCY, then THE FREE GIFT IS GONE.

Where does OBEDIENCE come into play? IT IS SOMETHING THAT OUR NEW NATURE (BORN AGAIN), WILL NATURALLY WANT TO DO.
GOD's LOVE was poured into our hearts at SALVATION, Rom. 5:5, AFTER WE ARE SAVED. It is NOT PART of SALVATION, but it is PART OF OUR LOVE; because that GOD's LOVE that was poured into HEARTS, absolutely WILL PRODUCE in us a lifestyle of LOVING GOD and LOVING our Brethren. THE LOVE IN US, is the FRUIT OF GOD'S LOVE BEING POURED INTO OUR HEARTS, Rom 5:5.

John 14:21 (NKJV)
21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

Does this song REALLY MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU?

"A work of the heart", "for the heart of man is wicked above all things, who is to know it". I hear alarm bells when someone mentions the heart.
Ezekiel 36:26-27
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

I believe we have been given a new heart.
One that seeks after him.
If our hearts are still stone then we would have no desire too seek after him.

Our works are out of love, not to earn his love.
We love because he first loved us.

Then why do you people constantly slander me for what I write.

All of you claim that Im teaching salvation by works, because you are not reading what I write.

Obedience is how faith is activated, or made "alive".

Obedience is how justification by faith works.

Obedience is how the righteousness of faith works.

Obedience is how love is demonstrated.

Example:

20 And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour. Matthew 9:20-21

It was when she moved forward to touch the hem of His garment, that she was healed.

I guarantee you, this woman who had for twelve years, suffered at the hands of physicians and only grew worse, never once complained about the effort she put forth to obey, to finally get her healing.

  • a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.

  • “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.”

The obedience of faith, is the principle, by which faith is activated and functions to produce a divine result.

Do you understand how this works concerning the Gospel, and salvation through faith?

Yes, notice that eternal life is in Christ.

As long as you remain in Christ, you remain joined to the eternal life in Him.

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10

  • confession is made unto salvation

Confessing Jesus as Lord, is the action of obedience to the Gospel command repent.

Repent is to turn to God, and submit to His rule and authority in obedience.

  • I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.

16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’

19 “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. Acts 26:16-20

  • If a person is called to turn to God, then that means they are commanded to turn away from Satan as their Lord.

Our works cannot save us,for our works is as filthy rags, and there is none that does good,no not one,and all are sinners and come short of the glory of God.

So no matter what we do we cannot ever do good enough to receive salvation.

In that position the only thing we can do to correct this position is to have faith, that is why we are saved by faith for that is all we can do,for our works cannot do it.

All we have to do is believe.

Paul said we are not saved by works, but by accepting Christ, which he was addressing Gentiles, and their false religions, that thought they could have favor with God by their religious ways, but Paul said you are not saved by those works but by confessing Christ.

Paul was speaking from a fleshy perspective, not saved by works, and James is speaking from a spiritual perspective, accepting Christ, and being led of the Spirit, justified by works and not faith alone.

If a person does confess Christ, they only have to love people for love is the fulfilling of the law, which is what James is saying, and that is why he said if you do not feed someone when you can, then how do you have faith, and any work they would do apart from that, loving people, like if they go by Old Testament physical ordinances,or do something that another religion would do has no bearing on their salvation, but a waste of time.

Paul, not saved by works,James, but led of the Spirit loving people to have faith active in our life.
So all we have to do is believe and then love our neighbor. That's nice and simple, no complicated rituals or sacraments to perform.
Many denominations teach that, it's these things plus you need to obey and keep many other ordinances and attend Church regularly.

The Catholic Church teaches that you need the sacraments of Christening, first holy communion and confirmation. These are necessary for salvation in the Catholic church
So do the sacraments save?

The sacraments can't save a person, I used to believe what the Catholic Church taught about salvation but now I believe what the Bible says about it. The Church teaches that the 'holy father' the pope has the final authority to interpret the Bible, because there are too many opposing views of what the Bible says about salvation. I don't believe the pope anymore either
