What do you believe separates those who believe and those who don't. Is one smarter, more intelligent, wiser or just willing to take a gamble in case there is a God. Or does God cause one to believe and cause the other not to believe. This is the question which divides the Church

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

So you don't believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, you trust in your works for your salvation. Good luck

I believe the Gospel, therefore I obey the Gospel, which is to repent.

Repent means to turn to God.

This is the Gospel.

If you are called to turn to God, then that means you are called to turn away from Satan as your lord and master.

The action of obedience to the Gospel command repent, is to confess Jesus as your Lord.

You Lord is the one you obey.

“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Luke 6:46

Those who "believe" the Gospel, but still obey Satan and sin and unrighteousness, will not be saved on the Day of Judgement.

God who “will render to each one according to his deeds:

  • eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

God who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath Romans 2:6-8

Believe = Believe and obedience which follows is works, yet you make NO distinction and that's how you ended up with salvation by faith PLUS WORKS. :(

Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”
From this verse, we can see that we obey the gospel by choosing to believe the gospel. Romans 1:16 - The gospel is the "good news" of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16). To “believe” the gospel is to trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation. *The gospel is not a set of rituals to perform, a code of laws to be obeyed or a check list of good works to accomplish as a prerequisite for salvation.

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! James 2:19
In James 2:19, we see that the demons believe "mental assent" that "there is one God" but they do not believe/entrust their spiritual well being to Christ; have faith/reliance upon Christ for salvation. In other words, they do not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31) and are not saved. Their trust and reliance is in Satan, as demonstrated by their rebellion in heaven and continuous evil works.

You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. James 2:24
In James 2:24, James is not using the word "justified" here to mean "accounted as righteous" but is "shown to be righteous." James is discussing the proof/evidence of faith (says-claims to have faith but has no works/I will show you my faith by my works - James 2:14-18), not the initial act of being accounted as righteous with God (Romans 4:2-3). Works bear out the justification that already came by faith.

In the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, the Greek word for justified "dikaioo" #1344 is:

1. to render righteous or such he ought to be
2. to show, exhibit, evince, one to be righteous, such as he is and wishes himself to be considered
3. to declare, pronounce, one to be just, righteous, or such as he ought to be

In Matthew 12:37, we read - "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." This is because our words (and our works) reveal the condition of our hearts. Words/works will appear to be evidences for, or against a man's being in a state of righteousness.

God is said to have been justified by those who were baptized by John the Baptist (Luke 7:29). This act pronounced or declared God to be righteous. It did not make him righteous. The basis or ground for the pronouncement was the fact that God IS righteous. Notice that the NIV reads, "acknowledged that God's way was right.." The ESV reads, "they declared God just.." This is the sense in which God was justified, "shown to be righteous".

Matthew 11:19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified/vindicated/shown to be right by her deeds."

*Man is saved through faith and not by works (Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; 2 Timothy 1:9); yet genuine faith is vindicated, substantiated, evidenced by works (James 2:14-24).

*Christ saves us through faith based on the merits of His finished work of redemption "alone" and not based on the merits of our works.

*It is through faith "in Christ alone" (and not by the merits of our works) that we are justified on account of Christ (Romans 3:24; 5:1; 5:9); yet the faith that justifies is never alone (solitary, unfruitful, barren) if it is genuine (James 2:14-24). *Perfect Harmony*

The sword was symbolic of a dividing object, like slashing something into two parts.

Well we can see that he did manage to divide the world into two parts, just as He said He would.

He has divided the world into Christians and non Christians, all of the non believers are in the same boat. Catholic's, Atheists, Muslims, Hindus and every other group are in the same boat and the Christians are in the other. So there are only two groups of people in the world, those who are going to heaven and those who are going to hell.

Christ came to bring division into the world, to set family members against each other. He never came to bring peace and unity, that's the Catholic and Islamic Jesus
Amazing how Christ called it that He would even divide the home and family. That's an awfully large assumption to be predicting huh?

Man oh man, thank the Lord the Bible isn't literal slot of the time. No wonder legalism attached itself so inseperablly to the truth when you read things like that above. Heck, you'd think you may be damned to hell and an enemy of God to go to the movies or something.
I do know that I do not keep his commandments all the time. I know I enjoy the things of the world sometimes, and I know that even though I do the things I shouldn't, it does not affect my salvation. Nothing will.
I came to give you life, and life more abundantly. You grieve the Spirit you hinder abundance.

Paul was addressing his kinsman here in Romans chapters 9-10. He was trickling new wine into old wineskin, and easing the pressure with much old testament reference.
Israel is already saved. When the fullness of the gentiles comes, Israel will be redeemed. Paul is simply explaining to his people that 1) Salvation is now spread out to the gentiles, and that it doesn't matter what nationality you are, you can be saved. And 2) that redemption does not come by the keeping of the law anymore, but by simply believing in your heart and confessing your faith in Christ that is what is necessary for salvation instead of the law.
Paul was by no means insinuating that you could be saved by doing these two things, but that they are the only way to salvation.
Only God can give you true saving faith in your heart through the Holy Spirit. The confession with the mouth is not a mere statement of necessity but a confession that the spirit of God is compelling you to proclaim.
I can't stand the world conjured a"sinner's prayer" outta that!

Man oh man, thank the Lord the Bible isn't literal slot of the time.

  • He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar,

3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 1 John 2:3-5

  • But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.

How can you say you love God and steal from your neighbor?

How can you say you love God and lie to your neighbor?

How can you say you love God and covet your neighbors wife?

How can you say you love God and worship idols?

How can you say you love God and commit adultery?

4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. James 4:4

  • Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Here is who Paul wrote the letter to the Romans and addressed:

Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God 2 which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, 4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. 5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, 6 among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;

7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:
Romans 1:1-7

  • but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God.

5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God. Romans 2:5-11

  • eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;
