Like all forms of music involving vocals some artists are more understandable than others.
Also listening to a music more frequently you learn to adapt your hearing to understand it easier.
I really can't stand rap because it takes very little talent and is usually either violent or sexually explicit. Total garbage in my opinion. Certainly not spiritually edifying either. Yes, a lot of rap you can't even make out the words. Just as well though as they are probably meaningless.
I play the violin for the music team at our local assembly. back at my previous assembly, I sang in the music team. I can play the guitar, but I'm not good at it lol.

I was like you, but at age 37 I started to learn. It's impossible to be part of an orchestra without being able to read music. I my case (viola) it's easy because I play only one note at a time.
Most bass players don't play well enough to be noticed. Those that do get the attention. Flea. Les Claypool. Two very well known bassists that are talented.

You’re right with majority of rap mainstream music, but there are minority of actually good gospel rap songs by artists who actually rap about God. I’ll try find them and post them here later brother
