If I am not mistaken, (Though I may well be.) there is a story behind that song. The author, his wife and their four daughters were planning on going to England. The wife and daughters went ahead and were lost when their ship went down. On the trip over, the captain told the guy that "this" was the approximately the place where his family were lost. The guy then penned the words to that song.
Regretfully, the stress of loss might have been too much for the song author. He later developed delusions of grandeur about who he was.

One of the MANY songs that has touched my heart since my dad passed away.... and still makes me cry and come down to my knees.... I love/hate it.... but its a good cleansing song to hear when you need a darn good cry.
