I must confess, I'm a bad speller. Although, to be fair, my exes probably would think up a new term to describe me.
I think it is because it is not a sharp sound. It is more of a perception, than a fact.
Mythbusters did a segment on it a few years ago. I forget what their conclusion was.

How ironic! Aren't they the ones fisherman's stick on hooks more times than not? Maybe they should share one with the fishermen - it might prove to be advantageously productively wise.
I have noticed that the way guys show affection to one another is to insult them. This is a standard throughout this country, at least.
But it doesn't seem to work with women very well. (No offense intended to anyone.) I wonder why that is.
You'll also notice that guys don't go around calling each other lovely, or beautiful, or dear.
