According to your calculations about how to be saved, no.

According to my calculations about how to be saved, yes. If you commit to Christ in 2018, then reject Christ in 2025, he will reject you and your salvation is lost. My calculation includes a provision for enduring to the end. Yours does not.
What is enduring to the end?

John said they were never saved I will chose to trust him not you ok?

Enduring to the end speaks of the tribulation age, and having ones physical life saved when christ returns, it has nothing to do with eternal salvation.

Your ficticious man was never saved.

Yes the "Great Pretender" if anyone can reject the "love the Father has lavished on us", he was never saved to begin with, his faith in Jesus was just a show, not real. There were many who followed Jesus who later left Him when the going got tough. Nothing you have said supports a, "grace plus works salvation", boasting in works is not allowed.

1John3:1
1) See what great "love the Father has lavished on us", that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Walk trough the valley
I get this, practicing good habits like an athlete. Amen! To do this with our mind is even more effective. Not my will (intellectual, psychological, philosophical, instinctive, carnal, emotional mindset), but God's will (the Holy Spirit's leading in our heart). The more familiar we become with the Lord working in our hearts, the more our eyes stay focused on Him, and the easier it is to follow Him with a whole heart.
Appreciate your comment: yes its not so much disciplining the body, as to be disciplined by the Spirit. "Physical fitness profits little but godliness profits for all things." You expressed well loosing ourselves in the Love of God: remaining focused on Him. Then there is no arguments between work or rest as it's from a place of rest in Him, then we all speak the same language of Love. But just as an eagle has to exert strength to reach the updraft to soar effortlessly, there is a working out of the renewing of our mind to soar with God by His Spirit and neither are we always soaring, even when we know the way. Yet we know it's God at work in us and all that we have is of Him: we are empowered by His Spirit to enter into the Spirit. The meaning of not of works is: not taking things in our hands, not taking our life back while trying to please God in our own way, we've all been there, it's what sin is about. The works of the flesh are all about me: what's in it for me. "He that separates himself argues and mixes up all sound wisdom." "Only by pride comes contentions," divisions are caused by desire to be in charge, leaders are even more vulnerable, but we are all in battle to walk by "Faith that works by Love," "The Love of God poured in our hearts by the Holy Spirit." That's why we have no claim on the work and good thing for us: if we had claims we would have to defend our clans and become a cult: thinking we are right and others wrong. Then if this is the case some are divided, even the Corinthians who had gifts of the Spirit were divided and unable to receive more than the milk of the word: gifts of the Spirit don't make us mature and can even make us conceited, thinking we are better than others it's happened to me. God is patient with us, for the fruit of the Spirit to ripen in us.

Boasting in works is not allowed. Boasting in your plentiful works is saying that, believing in the death, burial and, resurrection of Jesus Christ and His shed blood on the cross for your sins was inefficient to keep you saved. Boasting in works is trying to save yourself because the blood sacrifice of God's Son wasn't good enough for you.

Like this thread indicates, "Not By Works", an easy lesson to learn, sometimes.

would have remained with us. However, they went out so that it might be made clear that
none of them belongs to us.

So what is the 'one' work that James required?

Because in James 2:17 he uses the plural word 'works'.
Because in James 2:18 he uses the plural word 'works'.
Because in James 2:20 he uses the plural word 'works'.

Seems like my use of the term 'many good works' is appropriate.

Jesus (God) required that we forgive all men their trespasses against us. That is 1 of X requirements.
So how many is "many"?

Two?

Hi benhur, thank you for your honesty, most people will not admit that their eternal salvation can be lost. I will endure to the end also, so your assumption is wrong. It is "God who is able to keep me", not my plentiful good works.

Jude1:24
Now to "Him who is able to keep you" from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,

AMEN!

Philippians 1:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work
in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus
.

John 10:25-30 (HCSB)
[SUP]25 [/SUP] “I did tell you and you don’t believe,” Jesus answered them.
“The works that I do in My Father’s name testify about Me.
[SUP]26 [/SUP] But you don’t believe because you are not My sheep.
[SUP]27 [/SUP] My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me.
[SUP]28 [/SUP] I give them eternal life, and they will never perishever!

No one will snatch them out of My hand.

{NO ONE --- certainly includes SELF.}

[SUP]29 [/SUP] My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all.
No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

[SUP]30 [/SUP] The Father and I are one.”

Will God save me if I do two good works?

Or does the number not matter - is it how soon after the last good work I die?

What if i do 20 good works but it's a month or a year between the last one and my death? Saved? Not saved?

James used the term "No works"

if a person had one work, you could not say they had no works, You would have to say they had a work. The negative "No" is what gives it away.

What does it profit a person if they CLAIM to have faith but has zero zip nada works.

The context is the claimed faith, not the works anyway. Is the faith real, If it is, It will show at least one work. if it has zero zip nada (they are hearers not doers) ,can that faith save them?

talk about a fear based gospel. how could we ever know we have eternal life Like the apostle john said we could? We could not if we lived by that gospel.

I find it interesting that the dialogue always comes back around to this, what is more interesting is those who believe works have a

part in salvation or good works are necessary to prove salvation, really believe they have answered the question.

Wow, we can actually, "know", that we have "eternal life", not "work for eternal life", but
"you who believe", amazing!

1John5:13
I write these things to you who believein the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

he said more than this, He said the basis for our continued faith is our knowledge we have eternal life.

We don't

Those who are alive in tribulation are encouraged to and if they do, They will be saved when christ returns (not physically die) to set up his kingdom.

hebrews 10

35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
_____________

john 6

28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

1 John 2:19
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
