I went to FSU(Florida State University).......Yes, there were preachers that HATED students by their very own words(I witnessed this on many occasions)...In actuality, when I listened they didn't even hold sound Biblical doctrine when they were preaching. On the other hand, there were other preachers who were preaching to my campus with love but still warning them of hell and their sins!

It certainly doesn't do any good to bring anyone to the faith through fear because that's not freedom

!
You must have never read Jude. I came to Christ out of fear of hell. My wife came to Christ out of love knowing that God had compassion on her. Jude says it takes both
Jude 1:21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.Jude 1:22And of some have compassion, making a difference:Jude 1:23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.Jude 1:24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,Jude 1:25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.

But we have to much preaching now a days, that He is a loving God and He won't send anyone to hell, I was preaching the other day on presenting our life pleasing to God about living the Holy life He wants us to live, had a teenager speak up and say that God didn't expect her to be perfect, cause if God had wanted her to be perfect He would had made her perfect, see one thing we walk away from when we walk away from fear is respect. Fear is still needed in today's Chruch. The Bible's definition of wisdom is the fear of God.

Job 28:28And unto man he said, Behold, the FEAR of the Lord, that is WISDOM; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Pr 1:7
The FEAR of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise WISDOM and instruction.

To fear God or Know the Love of God is not the thing here, but rather know that God hates evil and if we are one of His, we must also hate evil

I know 1jo 4:18There is no FEAR in LOVE; but perfect LOVE casteth out FEAR: because FEAR hath torment. He that FEAReth is not made perfect in LOVE.

But My friend tell me How many people do you know that has perfect love ?

I so agree with NoahsDad on this.
What if they think YOU are lost, and THEY are saved?

Try to think of it, you might feel so much anger and hatred for them preaching false gospels, now what do you think do they feel? what if they feel exactly the same to you?

thats exactally the point im trying to get across in this thread,
As most of you know there are athiests, agnostics, etc, that come to view these threads, and by all means if you feel the need to warn them about hell(in which they dont believe)warn away, slap a few heads around,J/K...But when we are talking to our brothers and sisters in Christ I feel we need to exorcize a little more tact, and show all 9 fruits of the spirit,
Love,
Joy,
Peace.
Gentleness,
Goodness,
Faith
Meakness
Temperance,
&,Long suffering.
against which (as Paul sais) there is no law.
Now dont get me wrong, there are times in which a stern rebuke(or straight charge) is in order,But I feel ,most of the times when one is used its not needed, instead an exortation or simple reproof is more apt to get the point across,
Exortaton=to lift up,
reproof=a gentle guidence,I know the newer books translate reproof as a rebuke but the older ones translate it as a gentle guidence,if it werent different than rebuke it wouldnt be a different word,But thats just my opinion.

And above all when trying to reach someone that thinks you are lost and they are not ,Longsuffering,(or patience)Is called for and needed.I know it can be frusterating to those who know that they know ,what they've read is right ,but the person(or persons) on the other end of the conversation does too.So please exorcize gentle guidence,Who knows you may learn something too.

I love this response. We all look at things differently. I recieved God back into my life at home. Some at church, some in the back of a school bus. We all have our own expereince with The Father. You have to approach every one at their level. :)

Well, I looked up FSU on Wikipedia. 41,000 students is a lot of people, that must be a pretty diverse group, and Florida is a pretty diverse state,* and whenever you get that many people together you can't expect not to get the lunatic fringe. But, what's really cool is that they have 5 Intervarsity Christian Fellowship chapters (which is something very close to my family's heart. I met my best friend there, and my dad, my sister, my godsister and two of my ex-boyfriends were chapter presidents. In fact I'm the only one in my family who didn't get married through IVCF) and that's a great place to practice speaking the truth in love. On top of that I'm sure they also have lots of other good Christian clubs. Were you a member of any? (this I'm saying just out of interest and don't think I'm implying that if you were part of a campus Christian club that we wouldn't be disagreeing right now)

*Or so I've heard. I've never been there, but I had some friends that used to live in Clearwater, which is of course the world's Scientology capital. They said the reason why it's so diverse is because it has more people living there who weren't born there than any other state.

Ok, I've made more than enough posts on this thread, but I have to say one more thing. Last Christmas my mom went to the wedding of her friend's daughter. She was marrying a man who was living as a woman. Weird, hey? I mean why would a man who's convinced he's woman then go marry a heterosexual woman while continuing to live as a woman?? I don't get it either. But my mom said that she went to the wedding, well, mostly out of support for her friend and her husband, of course, who were having trouble with the whole situation, but because she was convinced that if what her friend's daughter was doing was wrong, that only the Holy Spirit can convince her of that. But, she won't have conviction from the Holy Spirit if all the good Christians she knows turn their back on her because they are judging her spouse. Does that make sense?

I mean, Christians rebuke other Christians all the time and I think that's a good thing, but when I comes to the conviction of non-Christians I think that's the Holy Spirit's job. Or at least there are times when it's only the Holy Spirit who can be sucessful with that. I mean, have you ever tried to tell someone who's had an abortion that what they did was wrong? I sure haven't, because if I were ever in that situation, I'd figure that only the Holy Spirit could do that. But no one's ever actually confided in me that they've had an abortion because they know I'm a Christian and therefore that I'll probably heap judgement on them, because that's what they see.

Anyway, my final point is this: non-Christians don't need to hear that they're sinful, chances are they know that. What they need to hear that Jesus offers forgiveness. But, if all they see is judgement, then they won't be interested.

I totally agree Noahdad..Because I know many people if I tell them one wrong word they will turn away from God forever. You have to be careful when you speak to a unbeliever..God will lead you and if you ask him, he will give you the words to say..Amen.

true. if you are doing somthin, be sure that its God who's leading you, and not your own understanding. how much do we know about God? Were we here when He created the earth? No. lol, and what we have in our brains is far less than 1% of His magnificence and might,. so why not let Him lead the way? and not the way we look at things, the way we understand things?

like what noahsdad said, let it be love!

and with our sinful nature, what comes out from our mouths (fingers rather) might be the things that cause others to sin! if we truly care for the others then we dont have to do it in a way that they will disagree and start getting mad and angry and start to sin. oh my gosh what did u do?
>im not saying you have to tell them things that they will only agree lol

if it's God's way, then there will be no problem! we can actually tell if it's God talking and not the person. remember the days of Israel? when God commands them to fight against all the other people , they will always win, and God's light will always be shown. and the other people who were defeated even recognizes God's work !

i might add. lol, some folks would say what i believe is a false gospel. lol and i say what they believe is the false gospel, and we'll just go on debating without end
it might never end lol, coz them people DO NOT see what God is doing in my life everyday, and i DO NOT see what God is doing in their lives.. i have NO IDEA, UNLESS God shows me something , same thing for them, they have NO IDEA, whats happening inside my house lol, so its not news if they don't believe what others are saying coz we live miles and miles away from each other,,.. and only GOD can work in that way,

...feel good Oprah Christianity (pulls tongue outa cheek) where everyone goes to Heaven.
You know I'm a big fan of Oprah, but I'm secretly critical of some of the Christianity she subscribes to. I don't believe she believes everyone goes to Heaven, by no means. What I do believe is that she believes those who don't victimize others go to Heaven. She comes down pretty hard on those who victimize others (like with posting all those rewards to catch wanted sex offenders, she definitly doesn't blieve they go to Heaven!) but she does encourage others to be themselves as long as they're not hurting anyone. And that's not Biblical. This is why she's so open minded to things like homosexuality and cohabitation. While I greatly admire her low tolerance of vicitimization, we know that there's more to the Bible than that. So that's my long way of saying I know what you mean about Oprah Christianity.

I like singing this to God.Cause he made Love and i Need to learn more about him.
Cause he is love and just as he causes rain to fall from the heavens to water the earth and bring forth life. Also his love and word bring forth life.
The truth is Love.To see is to be in the light.
God please please please forgive us for where we fall short.
strengthen us in our weekness
uphold us for thine has the power
Blessed be God who catches us when we fall.

Love a friend in God

That is so right on. I have thought on this a lot. I believe that is why there are so many different preachers. God has diferent people teach different aspects of the gospel. To diferent people. We are all different.

Oprah has said that Jesus is not the only path that leads to God... when she started her New Earth promotion I stopped watching her. I too used to think she was good but choose now to never watch her again because of her slowly infiltrating my mind with this new age garbage. Its all good... or is it? now i have a bigger job explaining to my unbelieving friends how... no if you worship a gold God you do not go to heaven even if it is masked with words like charma... destiny... good grief! so, i think i'm preaching to th choir here but here's the link to the show that was the beginning to the end of my love afair with Oprah... God Bless u Ancillia I agree with most everything you say on here... YOU ARE SO SMART LOL!!!
Praise the Lord for the lady who told them they are all subscribing to the lie...

People don't go to hell because of ignorance of the gospel or because of a poor presentation of it.

People are lost and going to hell because they are in sin. Only the gospel can save them, well presented or poorly presented... the power is in the message.

If a farmer goes out into his field and he is angry and hateful and upset, but keeps putting that seed in the ground, he will still have a crop. The power is in the seed and the soil, not the sower.

We will likely gain a better hearing with a credible example, but don't think that our polished demeanor and slick presentation skills is where the power is.

Thanks. I haven't watched the video yet but I will later. I can't watch it right now because I'm watching Dr. Phil!! I didn't watch the New Earth stuff. It's not that I just missed it, I mean that I decided not to watch the show on those days because I just didn't want to hear about that. Now, I could have watched it and tested all the New Earth claims to scripture but I just didn't feel like it. Maybe one day I'll search the Internet for a Christian view on the New Earth, which would be beneficial if I encounter non-Christians who subscribe to it. I guess as Christians we should stay on top of what's out there. Well, it's like how a couple of years ago my brother-in-law got a book on the lies in the DeVinci Code, I just scanned the summary of it. Wow. Anyway, Oprah also did a couple of shows on "The Secret." Which is basically about getting what you want. When my and I were watching that show she said "The difference between 'the Secret' and the Bible is 'Thy will be done.'" But, I still learn a lot from her, even when I learn about things that I wish she wasn't agreeing with.

I'm usually like you... garbage in garbage out... sift through what your hear and take the good and discard the stuff that doesnt line up with scripture. I just had enough with Oprah, cause it seemed I was having to do way to much garbage out. I also like Dr. Phil btw :D. You know whats interesting...i've heard (dont know first hand mind you) that one of the main comandments in the satanic bible is do what thou wilt. crazy eh. my sisterinlaw (professes to be christian) purchased the secret for my motherinlaw. I flipped through it. basically it teaches to covet things and put pictures on your fridge & you will positive speak these things into your life. basically seek things not God and you are in ultimate control. I truly made me sad to see it at a time when mom could really use God in her life people are steering her towards satanic garbage... and this is truly what i think it is. Mom also has books that reference alistar crowley... renowned satanist. She truly needs our prayers to see the truth because she also subscribes to the whole Oprah thing amoung other things... she believes in reincarnation... i said r u kidding me, who would wanna return to this cesspool? ... I didnt say this but upon later reflection, I suppose someone who's headed to Hell would gladly return here. I pray that she will believe and receive the Lord before she goes. I was thinking about stealing those books and burning them... but that would be a deliberate sin... cant borrow them cause i already told her what i thought of them. You know what else i'm sick of hearing... (this'll be my rant lol) people saying I'm sending you positive thoughts... I'm getting so bitter with those words... ok what exactly are your stupid "positive thoughts" going to do for anyone???? I"m sending good vibes your way... baby...lol ROFL... Far as I'm concerned they can take those stupid positive thoughts and vibes... go to a sandbox, stick head filled with positive thoughts in the sand and leave em there with my cats droppings. (oh my, I dont sound like a peacful loving Christian do I??? lol) AHH I'm not perfect... (just dont tell my husband). Anyways I always wanna say I got a better idea, pray for me but only if you'll do it in Jesus name cause believe me I dont want no budah prayers... My husband has rightly advised me that that would seem judgemental. go figure.
