I must start by saying that I probably process information a bit differently than most...In another thread some folks were joking about perch, which is a a fish to me, though they meant a place to sit. Anyway, that got me thinking about perch so I googled it and there was a story of a young girl who caught the current world record perch. I think it was 3 lbs. It was on a hunting and fishing site and that got me thinking about both sports.

I love both but I love to fish the most. I know there are many places in scripture where both are mentioned but I was wondering about a place where it is not...


Isaiah 65:17-25 17For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.18But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
19And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
20There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
21And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
22They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
23They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
24And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

Looks like there will be eating, planting and building....wonder if there will be fishing...again, just odd things I think about when I read these wonderful forums!

It was actually presented as a humorous distortion of the word "preach." :D

You touched a special place in my heart when you speak of fishing. I do not hunt....do not mind those that do, if they are hunting for needed food. I love to fish, and, as a rule, I practice catch and release. Sometimes, if I see a person near me fishing and keeping their catch, and I believe they are actually fishing to feed themselves/family, I will offer them my catch.

Love to be in the beauty of Gods creation.......and love to fish!

I do not know what Heaven has in store, but I would be really, really happy if fishing were a part of it. I do wonder however, because I believe (do not quote me) that there will be no spilling of blood, so......hunting and fishing may be out. :( That is ok though, hard to complain about spending eternity with our Heavenly Father.

I do not think that any killing or hurting animals for "sports" is allowed in the Bible or morally justifiable.

No, it will not be in heaven. There will be no death and no pain in heaven.

I eat what I keep and release almost everything I catch. I also clean and eat any animal I hunt, and I do not take a shot unless I am sure I can make a clean one. I used to bow hunt for everything except birds so my range was limited. I do not believe in hunting for fun or sport and I probably need to choose my words better.

Jesus seemed to like fish and fishermen.

We really don't know what the New Heaven and Earth will be like because our human understanding is limited. Images we are familiar with are used to describe things. In this case God uses the most pleasant and beautiful description we can think of to describe the Spiritual reality.

Even though we do not know what the heaven will be like, we can be absolutely certain there will be no death, pain, hunting etc.

I believe your statement properly reveals what God approves for us here in this life...... :)

It is just a personal thing for me that I do not hunt. As I said, for those who do so as you describe, I have zero problem with it...... :)

In fact......I am up early in hopes that I will get to go to the Tennessee River about 7:30AM and drown a few worms!

I do not judge you personally. I do not know you or your lifestyle.

But I do not think that its pleasant for a fish to get a metal hook jammed in their inner mouth/neck and being dragged by huge force with it out of water, even if you release them after that.... Imagine how you would feel.

Not for sports.
By sports I mean "I am bored, I could go buy food to the shop but I like the excitement of killing something, so I will go hunting today and kill some animals instead of for example playing soccer or a computer game".

I dunno.......I guess you are only speaking of what Heaven will be like right? About that fishhook part?

Because I'm pretty sure that after His resurrection, Jesus was on the beach cooking a breakfast of fish for the Disciples who were out in their boat fishing.......They did not practice catch and release like I do.......so, SHOOT! At least I got them beat! :)

Nice! Something new to think about! :eek:

While considering this question I was thinking more in terms of restored dominion, that exampled as Jesus demonstrated including the incident previously mentioned. I mean, did the 153 fish that ended up in Peter's net obey His unspoken faith that they should? what about the colt that had never been ridden but never bucked the system, so to speak? I was thinking that we go over to a river bank, hold a palm out and a fish would leap into it, and the thrill we notice now when we get a nibble on the line is a preliminary reaction to that future reality.

While looking for scripture, I found Hosea 2:18, concerning God's mercy toward, and restoration of, Israel,

"In that day I will also make a covenant for them
With the beasts of the field.
The birds in the sky
and the creeping things of the ground.
I will abolish the bow, the sword and war from the land.
And will make them lie down in safety."

Although a'lit less sporty, still, there might be fishing.

There is so much to this topic. (I love to fish too) One thing I remember hearing that was sort of an eye opener to seeing how my limited mind works is God does not have a long white beard sitting on a throne in His old age. He is forever young.

And if we are feeling something amazing and wonderful here on earth., it will be billions times better in heaven. So the feeling we have fishing... that little tug on the line that goes through our hand up the arm to our brains in anticipation of what is on the other end is going to be sooooooooooo much better and can't even be compared to what those feelings and emotions will be in heaven.

We will not have these faulty bodies to deal with that sometimes gets sad...sometimes gets happy...sometimes gets bored sometimes is excited about life...sometimes depressed sometimes ecstatically at peace.. sometimes content sometimes and discontent sometimes... this sometimes that.... None of that anymore! :)

We will be 100% balanced in JOY and Peace and love. No contradictions in life anymore. We get a small taste of what is to come but even then we can't comprehend the full extent of what He is preparing for us.

Ezekiel 47:10: And it will come about that fishermen will stand beside it; from Engedi to Eneglaim there will be a place for the spreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea, very many.

Not sure when the fishing above occurs -- probably during the millennial reign . . .

But I think that fishing has been in man's blood since the beginning. Some of the disciples were fishermen. Jesus helped them make their biggest catch ever!

I am a hunter and fisherman both: I love to be out in the woods or along the river as the sun comes up with a mist over the water and peace and tranquility are everywhere. My family eats little meat except venison, rabbit, squirrel, and fish!

An important lesson wrapped up in the lifeless wonder of the Dead Sea.

Abraham and his descendants chose Canaan as their homeland.
Lot chose the Jordan Valley.And Lot, you might remember, had first pick!
He actually chose the plains of Jordan. The entire valley was like Eden, the garden
of God. Everywhere in the valley, Scripture says, its fertile soil was well watered.

At that time, there was no Dead Sea! Before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The Prophet Ezekiel wrote of a coming time, now just ahead, when a river will flow out
of God’s millennial headquarters in Jerusalem, heading east into the Jordan Valley.

That pure river, the prophet said, will heal the contaminated waters of the Dead Sea,
making them fresh and pure! Fishermen will line the shores of the once infamous sea,
filling their nets with fish. Fruit trees of every kind will grow along the riverbanks,
producing fruit every month (read Ezekiel 47).

Yes, God will restore life and abundance to this millennia-old,
uninhabitable, barren wasteland.

And how powerfully symbolic this prophecy is.

Hunting ? no sorry , but gardening to produce own fresh food
will be everywhere, and also the drink from the vines. :rolleyes:
