Yeah, 9's really the best for now. That'll change sometime down the road, I'm sure. But modern defensive round capabilities have pushed it to the front of the pack when all things are considered.
I agree. A high-capacity 9mm should be all anybody needs for self defense. A .45 might be slightly better at stopping, but when you factor in the higher cost of ammunition for practice, you would probably be better off with the 9. At least, that was my choice.
For the "bear" question... I'm pretty sure I'd opt for the Glock 10mm.
I imagine AFTER an event such as a bear attack, I'd be thinking more along the lines of a double action .454 revolver.... with a couple of speed loaders, just in case.
