Isn't any Christian Church the Church of Christ? If it's not of Christ, it's not a Church. So I guess it depends on what you mean by "Church of Christ". Do you mean the "United Church of Christ", a Protestant denomination founded either in the 19th or 20th century. Before then, there was no Christian group preaching the things that make this a separate group.
The sad fact is, Protestantism, with its false assumption of sola scriptura with private interpretation of each individual alone with the Bible leads to endless denominations, divisions, schisms, heresies, errors, factions, sects, and cults. Some of these even deny the Trinity, the humanity and divinity of Christ, and the virgin birth of Christ, and His resurrection.

]Isn't any Christian Church the Church of Christ? Hopefully yes; but not all belong to the denomination by that name.

I am just curious.

Is there anyone here that is/are members of the Church of Christ?
I am a member, and I just wondered who else was. Just trying to touch bases and get a feel of this forum is all.

OHHHHHHH!!! And to those who may think that the CoC thinks we are the only ones going to Heaven...well, some may think that way, but I dont. I am not one to judge others for not believing the same way I do. So I really, do not want this thread to turn in to a church bashing thread like I have seen some people do that Catholics. Thank you. Amen.
The only way you're not getting into heaven is if you collapse your bioelectrical body, then you will be transported to the dump.

So do you believe that the New Jerusalem will touch down in Independence MO.? Do you believe that if you are not baptize by water your salvation is null and void? Do you believe that unless you are baptized by water in a CoC church it is also null and void ?

You say your not like the others,,,good, As Revelation tells us that all lamp stands are in Heaven, therefore there are many who are overcomers within each type of church. Most of them, I suspect will be saved in spite of themselves.

The Church or Christ is NOT the same as the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints(Mormons). I’ve never heard of the whole independence Missouri thing until you mentioned it then I had to google it. That’s a morman thing. Not a CoC. Totally different doctrines.
I will say that water baptism is essential for salvation. If it wasn’t scripture wouldn’t mention it. It is also not up to and of mankind to determine someone’s salvation. It’s between the individual and God.

Well that's your view being baptized of the holy spirit is more important than water baptism but that's on my side of things, still fascinating though.

This thread is getting me curious about visiting a Church of Christ or Church of God either one, simply for "learning purposes" as well as "intrigue".

There are many different sects. I am sure not all of them do this. It might be a cult, such as the boston church of Christ, which does this. don't judge them all because of a bad experience.

There are some CoC that have broken off from the main groups.. Although they take with them many of the same problems. Then there are the ones that try to Hide their Doctrine...as in (We celebrate Jesus ). And there are ones that try to hide by lying to the people who come into the church but yet their literature and association is with the Mother church in MO.

I have been fighting against the CoC for some time now as I have a Daughter who was saved years earlier in a Baptist Church. This particular church told her there would be no problem with her coming to church there. She stays because of the young peoples programs within the Church. That is where my grand kids are getting indoctrinated to a false Gospel.

As you can see, I have a BIG problem with this,CoC church and all I can hope is that the Kids were SAVED prior to being told they had to get baptized to be saved. 'Saved in spite of themselves.'

Bladerunner, please listen to me. You are very, very confused. The Church of Christ is not the Mormon Church, it is not a branch of the Mormon Church, it has nothing to do with the Mormon Church. There is no such thing as a "Mother church in MO" when it comes to the Church of Christ. The Churches of Christ do not even have a central organization, each church is independent of the other. Joseph Smith, Moroni and the White Salamander have nothing to do with the Church of Christ. They have no prophets, apostles or holy underwear. You need to rest and do more research about this issue before replying .

The Church of Christ was born in the 1800s as part of the Restoration era. They tell us they are part of God's Church and date it all the way back to the first century. I wonder which one of the seven Churches of that time period they identify with? (i.e. Jesus' seven letters to the seven churches (Rev 2-3).

I am sorry you did not know but Yes it is very likely your CoC is part of this organization. Like I stated is a later post, the local CoC churches started hiding the objectable doctrines in favor of the main stream doctrines. Yet, they are still there... Simply look in depth at your doctrine, the printed leaflets (who made them, etc.) and other traces of what the church really is.

My daughter will not listen and only asked the pastor about my concerns..Of course he told them different yet on their website it is there if you look for it. I assumed she (my daughter) did not want to see it so I quit trying to change her mind. I am relying on the fact that She was Saved at an earlier date and outside of a CoC Church. My Grand Kids are a different story. I suspect they were saved at least 6 months before someone told them they had to get water baptized or it did not count.

I will say there are a few break offs from the CoC but those that made major changes, broke away completely from the mother Church in MO. and most of the time have also renamed their church.

I would like to ask you to look to 2 Tim 2:15 and then rightly divide the Bible into appropriate dispensations. The CoC teaches in a mixture of Saved by Grace but also being water Baptized via the Law of Moses. Which one is it..The Law stopped with John and Jesus. During this time, John and Jesus' ministries were teaching the Law not by Grace. 40 Days after Jesus's resurrection, the Church was born and the Grace (Faith without works) began. I ask you to read Acts carefully as it is a transition from the Law to Grace. through Peter and the Apostles to Paul who is for all intents and purposes the Gentile's Apostle.

The CoC will probably stop at Act 2:38 but read the previous two verses to get the context. It was not until Act 7 that Steven was stoned and the teaching of the Gospel to Gentiles began in earnest. Yes, Jews who would believe were added to the Body of Jesus Christ but for the most part, it was taught only to gentiles.

I'll quit there and let you seek it out for yourself. You should not believe a word I say but rather study the scripture and act accordingly. ( Acts 17:11)

Hope you have a Blessed evening

Even though this link is about the founding of the Mormon Church, apparently they originally called themselves the Church of Christ. It was later changed to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or the Mormon Church.

The Church of Christ this WHOLE THREAD is about is the church that was essentially "founded" by Thomas and Alexander Campbell, and Barton W Stone, in the early 1800's...

If you try to call the Mormon Church the Church of Christ today, people will think you are a fool. The two churches are completely different.

Again, the one you are apparently railing against is now known as the Mormon Church, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints....... founded by Joseph Smith in the late 1800's.

You don’t even know what church I’m referring to. You keep confusing them. I suggest you read up on scripture and different doctrines so you actually know what you’re debating.
