Just fyi, the correct rendering and is what the majority of the major translations have, as well as the Interlinear, is as follows:
"And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'
Therefore, according to the verse above, they still had oil but they were going out, which means they were running out of oil. It appears that all of the King James based translations and the Aramaic translations are the ones which say "have gone out." Below are all of the major translations

What kind of response is that?! Can you read? I just provided information to show you what the actual verse says. If you don't want to believe it that is your error. It's not what I believe, but what it says. You people don't even believe when you're proven wrong. You reply with ridiculous responses like you did above. As you can see the foolish had a limited amount of oil with them, but did not have any extra, it never says thy ran out of oil and asked for more. The word plainly says their lamps were going out.
You play prideful semantics and break your arm off to pat yourself on the back for what a scholar you are and treat the rest of us as too glib and must be saved by your scholarship.
I will agree with you they had oil, but they did not take any with them. That is far cry from what you and HOD are trying to force feed us.

It really does not matter what version I used, the verse stands in all versions. What does it say that the story you heard does not line up to what the verse actually says?

When we examine the parable of the Ten Virgins, we should also place the parable of the Wheat and the Tares beside it. The Tares are those who call themselves Christians (and probably believe that they truly are) but they do not have the indwelling Holy Spirit. Oil is a metaphor for the Holy Spirit, so the wise virgins were really those who had the oil of the Spirit whereas the foolish were those who did not have the oil of the Spirit (yet they appeared to be Christians since they had those lamps).
And that is why they were shut out of the presence of Christ. As He said in another context that there will be some who will say "Lord, Lord" but His response will be "I never knew you". This is experiential knowledge of Christ dwelling within those whom He knows, and them knowing Him as Lord and Savior.
