I have a thought for today. I took my mom and son to church this morning and as the singing began and we were finding our seats, two people gave me this look. It was one of those looks that screamed, "Eeww, what is he doing here?" I quit worrying about it as pastor started preaching, but after my son went back with his mom and things are settling down, those two faces are forcing their way back into my mind.

Two naughty dogs and too much snow. They jump over the fence and straight off to freedom (and the neighbour's treats). Today I had to bribe two neighbour kids to walk with them, because I don't get out with my wheelchair because of all the snow... This is going to be a looooooong winter.

What happened to the days when the two got married because of a pregnancy. My mother's parents did that. They stayed together until death.
I blame Oprah. I remember in the late 80s through the 90s, her and the guest on the show, would say pregnancy was not a good reason to marry. Bullcrap, it's as good as any reason.

I've always believed that was a bad idea. And not because of Oprah or anyone else telling me. In fact I was surround by people that thought it was right.
But getting married over pregnancy is Not "as good a reason as any". More likely it's a setup for divorce.
Citing one exsmple doesn't exactly make a solid case, either. I could cite cases where things fell horribly apart.
Entering into a lifelong covenant isn't something people feel they have to do because something happened they didn't expect. To put pregnancy as good of a reason for marriage as love is beyond laughable.

Your comment makes me wonder how good a reason for marriage love actually is. It's only been considered such in the last few hundred years in western civilization. Other than that love has generally been considered nice, but not necessary for marriage. Then again, I'm not entirely sure what a good reason to marry actually would be in analytical terms (or even if such a thing could be universally defined). And that's probably one of the reasons I'm perpetually single.

I disagree with you.

Two people must of had some love for eachother for a few minutes to make the child. Love isn't a supernatural force that draws two together. It's a choice. People should take responsibility and choose love.

I just did a google search, I couldn't find an article that supported a belief that shotgun marriages are more unsuccessful than traditional marriages. I found plenty of people expressing their belief that shotgun marriages are more unsuccessful, but none cited research. I did find an article that showed academic research that marriage in general, regardless if it's pre-pregnancy, mid-pregnancy, or post-pregnancy led to a higher rate of economic success.

Think about it..... if someone takes that kind of responsibility, to marry because of a pregnancy, they must be more responsible with all areas of the relationship.

What is love and what is the right ground for marriage?

I married for love, I think. Or was it rather out of guilt for having slept with him. Or out of duty. Or out of the knowledge I hardly wouldn't find anyone else that would like me. I am not sure. I did what was expected of me. What I do know is that we got married without anyone telling us so and it was a disaster.

They say that people in arranged marriages marry without being in love, but grow to love eachother. Europeans marry for love, but grow out of love.

How was it when the Bible was written? Was Mary madly in love with Joseph and got married out of love, or was it arranged? Most likely it was arranged between the families.

I am not an expert on love. And it seems like I attract the wrong kind of men. Sometimes I wish someone that sees the bigger picture could find a match for me. Because I am hopeless at it. I guess it will take a miracle or a God's intervention for me to get married again. I pray it will happen. And I also pray he will protect me from all the wackos out there.

You know, I...have no idea. Maybe? Where I’m from, when we say cheese fries, or cheesy fries, we just mean French fries covered in melty cheese, sometimes served with chili on top, but usually just ranch on the side. What on earth is poutine?
