"Coffee: One of the greatest beverages, or the greatest beverage?"

More like the quickest gateway to harder drugs. Show me ONE heroin addict that never had a cup of the devil's bean-water.

I am so glad you get it! Fantastic information has nothing to do with preaching, being religious or hyperbole. It's vital science and health factual education being made available to a much wider audience online than for those who aren't interested in listening. One of the major problems with caffeine is that it masks fatigue. To break it down: How does caffeine work? Caffeine is a pesticide. It's a naturally occurring pesticide in that little coffee or cacao plant that is to stop animals from eating too many of the seeds, because if you eat the seed, crush it up, the plant can't reproduce. So that seed, the caffeine, is a pesticide that kills animals who eat large dosages. So what happens is when humans eat caffeine we don't die but the body goes 'WOW' it's a neuro toxin, a poison but it's actually classified botanically as a neurotoxin so that damage can kill brain cells. When you consume caffeine, or theobromine which is in cacao, chocolate etc the body goes 'whoosh' *neurotoxin* and it releases adrenaline. what does adrenaline do? It pushes the fight - flight hormone. It pushes sugar into the cell giving you a boost of energy. It also vasodilates your arteries and increases your blood flow.

Caffeine = neurotoxin = adrenaline. Most people fail to understand how caffeine or theobromine works. They just say
"yeah i'm tired, boom have some coffee, caffeine"
and they don't question it. So when you have these stimulants, you're masking fatigue. You're delaying your growth hormone response. because when you're tired you should get some water, fruit or have a nap - restore, regenerate, replenish. Significant distinction between replenishing and getting a jolt of false energy. So this idolization of coffee "I live for coffee" "i have x number of cups of coffee a day" is a reminder of why these discussions are so necessary. Lifestyles need to be adjusted as all coffee does is bring you up a false level and then drops you off significantly, eventually you're going to have pay that depreciated affect, that masked fatigue. Caffeine can be likened to a credit card, you buy that shiny looking object called 'energy' today but you're going to be paying back in interest later on. "I don't' care, i just want it now, i just need it now!" Remember, you'll be paying it back. That's why when people get off the caffeine and join the raw, vegan lifestyle, they might gain some weight because their metabolism is thrashed, they don't sleep, their brain is just on fast forward and they're strung out.

I would recommend saying goodbye to caffeine for a good period of time, understanding that these are neurotoxins and it's a social drug - coffee is associated with the social scene and you can see the addictions it breeds with 3 or 4 cups a day. Instead of drinking what is botanically classified as a neurotoxin several times a day with follow up damage, drinking cold, clear, fresh spring water instead - the benefits are for the brain, body and life long term.
Like I said, LC understands the science and bio chemistry behind this, unlike most lay people. That's why i say none of you can back your claims of coffee being good for you with science, because it can not be.

Heroin? I thought it was crack. Crack speeds you up, heroin slows you down. Caffeine should be the gateway drug to crack.

Come on people! If you're going to make wild accusations, at least get the right drug.

I’m at the movie theatre and I noticed they don’t serve coffee at the concession stand. The person working at the concession stand said that people ask her about coffee all the time. They should serve coffee! :p

HOW HARD COULD IT BE TO ADD THIS TO THE LIST. :)

Well mailmandan there is "Seattle's Best Coffee" on that first menu. Though the local fast food factory has Seattle's Best coffee... and I would hate to be downwind of their WORST if that's their BEST.

The prices on both those menus are a bit exorbitant... but I live in southwest Tennessee. The cost of living is much lower here.

LOL! I did not notice that on the first list. Maybe certain movie theaters in the US have coffee on their list but not in Missouri where I live.

MATT. 25:8.
And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

LUKE 21:34.
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting,...

1COR. 6:19-20.
What? know ye not that your body is the Temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

PHIL. 4:5.
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

you know it truly is sad when you attempt to share and minister from your experiences,
what you have witnessed as you grow up-older-in-Christ, and it is taken as offensive and
condemning - when in fact you are led in Love in order to help others and prayerfully keep
them from making the same un-necessary mistakes that you have made and not have to
suffer the consequences...
but it is also understandable that there is surely 'one' -
who desires for us to suffer needlessly and die as it says in Ecc., 'before our time'...

I’m confused here. Are we still discussing coffee?

For me coffee is the devil's brew.

Took 10 years to break an addiction to the stuff that made me irritable, quick to anger and rage, and deprived me of much needed sleep. Took 2 or 3 years after that for my body and mind to heal.

But it helped me play the world's game of gaining success and riches.

Oh, yeah. For those of us who know, he is most definitely still talking about coffee.

It's really nothing more than legal cocaine. It's the success cocktail of the Western world. Some of us don't have the biology to bear under it's abuse.

Coffee made me crazy. I tell people that when they try to get me to have a cup of coffee.

Hardly consistent with the born again life, for me anyway.

Legal cocaine? Sounds extreme. I drink coffee in moderation and have not experienced any problems like you described in post #89.

Then you need to stay away from coffee if it causes you to stumble.

When I'm high on caffeine, I'm funny and witty beyond belief. I'm success driven. My mind is sharp and quick. I feel like the famous movie star or comedian or singer, it's just that my secret to success is caffeine, not cocaine or whatever illegal drug the elite use to drive the performance demands of their success and stardom.

It's about moderation. Anything in excess can lead to problems, whether coffee, alcohol, fast food etc..

That's why I do stay away from it.

And that's good for you, really. But like cocaine some don't handle it so well and wake up dead next to a girl friend/prostitute your wife and family did not know you had.

With cocaine, perhaps. With crack cocaine, a better chance. With meth, the sky is the limit.

With coffee? Really? You must know some people who have some weird chemical issues. Anybody who even shows a hint that he is going to go on a drugged-out spree and die lying next to a secret lover... because of coffee... needs to seek medical help, because he has more issues than just coffee.
