Because we are a Democracy here and not the Theocracy; Yes. But as a Christian we have a responsibility to live and thereby promote GOD'S standards through Christ. Any sin including Homosexuality is not part of that.

Technically, in the United States, and atleast my state, Virginia, no one has a right to get married. The states regulate it.
The question should be, why is the government involved in marriage at all?

Everyone deserves legal rights, provided everyone involved are consenting adults .
Imagine a couple who has been together for years and one of them passes. Marriage gives the the surviving spouse legal right to all the assets they built together. Same-sex couples should have that same right
