I love them all! It depends upon what I am looking for. General workability, I love cotton. Feeling, I like velvet and satin. wearing, I like denim and brushed denim. Moral of the story: don't ask someone who sews that question :p

I wouldn't say it's hogwash really but certain traits in people can be the same or opposite and make a good relationship,but if you are asking as far as gender wise I believe so though some of the opposite gender have been annoying to me and I don't mean in a so picking on someone because you like them type deal,I mean just aggravating as I'm sure you understand as you've expressed how that some of your opposite gender have been really bad about being I can probably guess overwhelmingly irritating like asking you to join a club to fit in or making condescending remarks or trying to "set you up" with someone,or probably some just as with my opposite gender don't understand you want someone more serious instead of impulsive and rude.
I've been bullied by both genders so I know some about how both guys and girls can be,I mean sure me and you get silly on here and possibly bug people but I'm sure outside the internet you are more serious and not very open with people as I am,I've used comedy as a shield plenty but I really prefer someone who can see past that and know that I really don't like the whole "fitting in thing",I really like being me instead of changing because of others as I've been subjected to in the past.

Do you think flowers or autumn leaves are more pleasant to see?
 
Everything has it's season. But autumn leaves kind of remind me of Winter. And thus I prefer flowers.
