I'm becoming vegan, any advice?

I just learned how cruel consumerism is to animals. So I'm done with supermarket and fast food meat.

Is this a healthy choice? And do you have any advice about beginning a vegan diet?
 
I'm no expert but I know a little. It can be healthy, but it can be unhealthy if not done properly. You have to use other foods to compensate for the losses from not eating meat. Its tricky.

Ugly's right you will need to "compensate" for the loss of protein; like certain nuts and tofu will help. If you are serious about this and it sounds like you are, go to your local book store and purchase any cheap paper back on the subject of, Veggi Diet's", because for example there are different type's of protein's and some cannot be found in veggies only.

You can also go to Daniel who vowed not to eat King Nebuchadnezzar delicacy's. I believe Daniels diet was composed of mostly fruit and nuts. It sounds like God has given you a compassion for our fuzzy animal friends and thats great. I was once on a high protein, high carb's diet, (meat and potato's), because I had a labor intensive carrier and needed high energy food.

Later you will see that your diet will fall back to your use-to-be diet, if you're not careful, it happens to me all the time. Homemade veggie soup with spinach and tofu, plus add a side dish of jasmine rice works good. My wife is a gourmet cook and she will add small fried salmon steaks, small barbecue halibut steaks, and stuffed venison burger's, to my veggie diet, (no antibiotics or hormones).

Make a big pot of veggie soup so you can eat all week long. Add some toasted 12 grain bread with butter and you're on yur way, its all about variety and staying healthy for me.

 
I am just in the middle of watching a series called Bible Health secrets...I am type 2 diabetic, it speaks a lot about a plant based diet, and how it heals your body from disease...I am looking to bring my blood sugars down, it also mentions about four blue zones in the world where they have the highest rate of age because they stick with the eating that God planned for us...It`s a new series that has just started, I can try and copy link for you and maybe you can have them send it to your e-mail, it`s very interesting, and they use Scripture through out...The videos are over 1 hour and 40 mins...xox...

Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Say to the Israelites: ‘Of all the animals that live on land, these are the ones you may eat: You may eat any animal that has a divided hoof and that chews the cud.
 
In heaven we will all be vegan - or at least vegetarian. :) Kudos to you for making this decision. I agree that when done properly this lifestyle can only benefit your health and minimize harm to animals.
I was a vegetarian for six months and while I did go back to eating meat - I eat a whole lot less of it now.
I learnt a few things while being a vegetarian. One would be that organization is key. Even more so if you are a vegan (I was a vegan for two weeks).
This is because unless you live in a Bohemian inner city hood - restaurants and convenience stores don't tend to cater for vegetarians - much less vegans.
So, budgeting, cooking and freezing should become part of your routine.
Then - expectthat you will crave meat and dairy products for a while. For me it was cheese and salami. If you slip up don't throw the towel in. Just start a fresh the next day.
Also, be aware that with a lifestyle change this drastic - it can be pretty stressful till it becomes habitual. So try to minimize each stress in other areas.

I think you have the wrong idea. I'm not commanding anyone to abstain from meats, it's nowhere in the topic.

But what I am doing is following my conscience.
I'm not against eating meat at all, but I won't eat meat from tortured animals that are treated like inamament objects. These animals aren't even allowed to be what they are. Due to the hedonistic lifestyle and counmerism of this world, God's creation is bent and twisted.

We are called to be good stewarts. Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal,
But the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.

You can eat whatever you please, I'm not here to convince you not to. If it's ok with you that the food on your plate was probably the target of sadistic abuse then dig in. If you don't mind that mind that poultry farms throw 80% of their male chicks into a garbage can to suffocate or throw em into a grinder, then have yourself a 10 pice bucket at KFCs.

Nope. I have two choices in buying groceries, Walmart and a discount grocery store. There used to be a local egg farm, but it burned down. But I will look into it more, there must be some local farms somewhere.

I wasn't trying to condemn you... :)

I was just trying to show that being vegan or vegetarian is not how God meant us to be, because that is what every single christian vegan and vegetarian I've ever come across seems to believe....

But I see now that you just don't want to support the cruelty that goes on in the meat trade... fair enough. :)

I just want to add that I also am appalled and against all the animal abuse in the meat trade and I've known about it for years, ....

but for me, being restricted to only eating vegetables and fruits would be like a twisted version of hell. I've tried eating plenty of salads and veggies and cutting back on meat before and I hated it.
