The great commission is kinda more interesting if you read it in the context of a conquering king. Let me phrase it with commentary.

-----------------------------------------
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
(Jesus came to them and said , I rule everything in heaven and on earth)

-----------------------------------------

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
( Go to the world , and make citizens of my kingdom out of everyone in every nation through baptism)

-----------------------------------------

20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
(Make sure that every conquered nation - obeys and does everything I command - and I will be with you until the end of time.)

I would be cautious in giving unqualified assent to this interpretation.

Water baptism does not change who we are - it is the result of the fact that we have been changed (into heavenly citizens) already.

That is an interesting perspective..... perhaps a little "militant" sounding, since Jesus made it plain he was not here to establish a physical, earthly kingdom.... but it's a "fresh" way to view the kingdom.
