Wow. This thread is probably more harmful than helpful, and even though the OP has suffered much pain because of Catholicism's unorthodox doctrines, we still need to show grace and patience with those who hold to other beliefs. That doesn't mean we ignore them, but there is never a good reason to ridicule or call names... Will that ever convince anyone that they're wrong? Um, no. I understand the anger and frustration, believe me.
My first thought on this is that not all Catholic churches are purely heretical. Some do teach the true Gospel mixed in with everything else... I know Catholics who seem to be genuine followers of Jesus and believe that He is the only way to salvation, but who also believe you can pray to saints and that you have to confess to a priest. I don't think those beliefs are correct, but I would stop short of calling them an outright heretic.
I agree that the teachings of the Catholic church have probably turned many away from Jesus to other non-saving rituals and prayers, and that is truly horrible. In addition, Folk Catholicism is truly far from the Truth as it is basically paganism with Christian elements. I have relatives who were and are Catholic (by name at least), and it is obvious that they are not living godly lifestyles and have actually rejected the Gospel after hearing it. I also have a friend who grew up in a Catholic church, was saved as a young adult, and continues to attend a Catholic church even though this person doesn't agree with some of the teachings. I'm not sure that's a good choice, but it's one example of a Catholic who is definitely saved, anyway.
In conclusion, let's put a little more thought into our posts here and show a little more grace with those who are on a different page.
