Yes that is exactly where I was, trying to finish in my own effort what had begun in the Spirit.
You have a whole church full of company in that in Galatia.
Yes that is exactly where I was, trying to finish in my own effort what had begun in the Spirit.
The end result for what you're saying is "Don't say anything"
We end up justifying ourselves with that excuse every time we feel led of the Spirit to approach someone about their need.
Have you ever heard your preacher say, "I'm preaching to me, too"?
He's declaring he needs what he's preaching just as much as anybody else.
What could a preacher preach if he disallowed everything he's dealing with?
NOTHING. He's living in flesh just like the rest of us.
The watchman sounds the alarm no matter what he's guilty of.

you sound belittling to me pal.. just like thos who think there done deal to..Stephen,
Honest question. Are you on this forum to teach, share, or learn?
Do you believe there is room for you to grow yourself? Have you considered what other people are sharing with you? I always do my best to consider what people are saying, which is why I address Scriptures that appear to contradict my positions, so that I can grow myself.

riddled with pride to by sounds of itI sound belittling because I asked him if he was open to learning from others?
Let me ask you a question. Are you trying to teach me something right now? If so, don't you want me to be open to receiving from you? Or would you rather I harden my heart and not receive what you say?
I stated in my post, that I don't have it all figured out, I always seek to be open to growing and learning from other people. And I asked him if did the same.
I apologize if that came off as belittling, I'm not sure how else I could have communicated it, but it wasn't my intention I was simply trying to be honest from one brother to another. That's why I referred to him directly.
What made you so mad about what I said? I'm very confused by your response.

well i guess that shows your ignorance tooHmm, I'm putting you on ignore, take care.
your born again to be connected to the vine..So why am I born again in this life?
1 Peter 22:23
Hmm...my mind can't pick it up that way...
I definitely DID keep trying to kill the old man, but I think my problem was trying to finish in the flesh what began in the Spirit. I had such a hunger for righteousness in my inner man (and not some imputed righteousness but to actually and really BE good) that I tried very hard to be good. I think there was also an aspect in there that I didn't want to admit I had to give up my life (the feeling that I should be treated well by others and given respect, the pride that gets its feelings hurt when its spoken to harshly, etc.) in order to gain that. I mean, no ones going to take a car to the junkyard to be crushed until they are absolutely CERTAIN they can't get it to run and that it has no worth.![]()

You say I am painting it gray by saying we should consider ourselves dead to sin. Yet, then you say I never said we should consider ourselves dead to sin. You're playing both sides here.
YOU SAID that because we're saved we are dead to sin, as in "done deal".
Your post said:
Oh I see, well as EG pointed out, it is a past tense statement. The idea behind it in my opinion is this:
"24Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."
Now those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh. <<<
Belonging to Christ = Crucified the flesh.
The flesh is crucified by belonging to Christ.
Said another way: The act of being in Christ, crucified the flesh. Because we now live to God not to the flesh. There is a spiritual reality that has happened when we die to the old man and are reborn in Christ.
That says the old man (the flesh) is already dealt with, which isn't true.
Paul says:
1 Corinthians 9 24Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; 27but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
I definitely agree with this.
The Holy Spirit can give me great victories - I've seen it.
But I don't want to give up control/give up my life.
I sound belittling because I asked him if he was open to learning from others?
