It began just before 70 ad and continues to the present time . It was the Great Tribulation of the Jews.
Luk 21:20
But when ye see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that her desolation is at hand.
Luk 21:21
Then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains; and let them that are in the midst of her depart out; and let not them that are in the country enter therein.
Luk 21:22
For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
Luk 21:23
Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people.
Luk 21:24
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

4 For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.5 As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

That's exactly right. All of those things did take place and here's how.
Happened prior to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD and was recounted by many dozens of survivors to Josephus who wrote about it. Jesus told those wicked religious leaders that He was coming back to execute judgment upon them and He kept His word. Sorry you don't realize that this vengeance was very personal and directly aimed at those who rejected Him and had Him crucified.
A great number of the 1.1 million Jews dead in the city were in fact pecked at by birds, who ate their flesh. This is also in the historic record.
Now, we very well may face another world war and see all kinds of horrible things but guess what? You're going to be witnessing them right along with me and telling me, "Oh no, the worst is yet to come." You'll be saying this right until the end.

With 1000% certainty!! Not greater tribulation has ever hit another country this hard, nor ever will again according to scripture. This was the worst tribulation any nation ever faced. It isn't just the 93% of the population that died that makes it bad, it's how they died. It was horrific, worst than what the Nazis did to them.
