This verse is almost always taken out of context and was/is victim over over indulgent proof texting...

6 Do not eat the bread of a selfish man,
Or desire his delicacies;
[SUP]7 [/SUP]For as he thinks within himself, so he is.
He says to you, “Eat and drink!”
But his heart is not with you.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten,
And waste your compliments.

This is talking about you not eating with a stingy/selfish person, who on the outside offers you food, but secretly worries about how much it will cost them to feed you and really has no desire to be around you...

Not sure when we started thinking this had to do with our own souls....
Somebody left out part of it Meggido....and it did have to do with Dcons comment.

You know...gossip is not a fruit of the Spirit by the way.

he also said you may know you have eternal life if you keep my commands which are not burdesome..
[SUP]2 [/SUP]This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. [SUP]3 [/SUP]In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands

FAST FORWARD..........

[SUP]13 [/SUP]I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life

That is powerful. Satan is the accuser and he's not just a false accuser but a true accuser. All our failings he will bring up if he can. That's the power and beauty of the grace of God. He can't if we understand that Jesus has taken care of all sin. And the very nature of it.
so satan is the accuser ???? satan has a purpose so lets glorify him too while wherre at it... nar come on sis ya dont really believe that do ya ?

it is not a trap, just reality,

john said if we deny we have sin we are decieved. Paul said he still had a battle between the flesh and spirit. But told us what to do, and most importantly. Told us not to think we have made it, but continue to run the race,

i still sin, those are the facts, I can not fall into your trap and deny I have any sin, I will stunt my growth, deceive myself, and have to start Fooling myself into thinking I have made it, why run the race when I already arrived?

thanks but no thanks.
Who is sinless? Only Jesus.

Romans 5:5-6 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still POWERLESS, Christ died for the ungodly.

Luke 24:47-49 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Matthew 6:12-15 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

1 John 1:10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

Ephesians 4:17-32 Living as Children of Light So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Somebody left out part of it Meggido....and it did have to do with Dcons comment.

You know...gossip is not a fruit of the Spirit by the way.
I just looked at my own post and I can see how someone would read it wrong. So let me correct.

Dcon was posting about the heart and sevenseas posted only part of the KJV of the scripture...as a man thinketh (leaving out in his heart) so is he...

I was affirming Dcons post with the whole of the scripture. Now Meggido, your version says "within himself" which in his heart would be symbolical for that phrase.

Again...affirming Dcon...

Also, Meggido...In a conversation with you in a pm...I said I would look further into things. I see no reason to change my thinking, so if you feel you need to disfellowship, then please obey your conscience.

Here's where I believe the error to be:

In our desire to see people do the good works of God we emphasize works unto salvation. Which is good and totally understandable, but unfortunately if handled incompletely it can also diminish the reality of the present power of God to transform hearts. Emphasizing works is good when it is understood as clearly declaring the work of God already done in us. Where it gets messy is when we think it has something to do with making us loving, righteous, or holy before God.

And here's why:

It His work in us that shows the world His gospel.
It His love for us that allows us to love one another.
It His forgiveness for us that empowers us to forgive others.
It is His grace in us that reveals Christ.
It is His Spirit that declares what we've been given in Christ.
It is by His stripes were are healed.
It is by His becoming poor that we have been made rich.
It is by His being broken that we have been made whole.
It is by His death that we have received life and life abundantly.
It is by His goodness. And His kindness. That we joyfully repent to His ways.

He is the cause. He is the driving force and power. He is the one who changes us, transforms us, leads us, guides us, teaches us, dwells with us, unifies us, and as we are "renewed in our minds, repent, and put off the old to put on the new" we declare the goodness of God with our lives.

And all of creation is eagerly awaiting to see Him in us.

I don't diminish holiness. No, I believe the true gospel is what empowers it.

C.
There's another error too though. Being too quick to pass judgement or slap a label on someone. (And a lot of the time it's because someone doesn't like the way something is worded.) That's not beige - it's yellow. No, it's actually a yellowy-beige. No, it's white, but just a yellowed white, etc., etc.

And here's another error. Once you have given someone their label, it dismisses them. From there on out, you don't really hear their explanation or further expounding. I'll give the example again of how I saw this very thing happen here. I saw it happen once to Bruce and I saw it also happen to fran.

With Bruce, it was said that he dismisses the entire gospel before Jesus died. (It appeared to me like that too), but instead of accusing him of treachery, I said, this is what that sounds like to me when you say such and such. Then he was able to expound and explain where his mind was at. But another poster just rip-roared over him in dismissal, slapping on the label as he went, and didn't hear or listen to his further explanation. And still accuses Bruce.

With Fran, she stated that works keep us saved. Once again, it appeared to me like she was saying something wrongjust as it appeared that way to me with Bruce , but I read her posts carefully, and in a place she said something like...works are necessary to keeping saved in the sense that you will have them if you are abiding in Jesus. But the label slapping continues and no one heard her. She clearly attributes the works to abiding and not to her own power, and yet she is said to not be abiding in Jesus. Despite what she said.

The errors are flying both ways.

We should be able to give out our beliefs - give the scriptures of why we believe that and leave it at that. These personal attacks are not from Christ in us brethren.

No one can "make" someone else believe - it must be by revelation of the Holy Spirit because that is His job of revealing the things of Christ to us.

If people are malice-filled and slander us - then just ignore it and don't interact with them anymore.

It serves no purpose but to cause strife and division if we keep interacting in this manner.

When you or others state that they are a NECESSITY of salvation and ONE can lose salvation for non-compliance...that is the beef.....
Then you will always be in a beef because there have been and continue to be many godly men who do not believe in OSAS and there have been and continue to be many godly men who do believe in OSAS. I've met some of both camps and they love our Lord and have received the Spirit and they walk consistently in the Spirit.

Jesus work freed me from the law of sin and death. My work will never free me from one sin, let alone all I have commited.

Paul said in romans one man had knowledge from the begining that sin was sin, and knew they were rightly judged for it, Paul speaks of the gentile who have no law. by nature doing what is in the law (because the law is written in our hearts)

You might need the law. But I was saved from the law. The law has no more power over me, or use to me. t has done its job in me.
you mite want, to take it up, with the posts, you posted about repent, to receive this gift.

Your sub-conscience has existed for billions of years, fighting gravity?
how old, do you think the bible is. who s sub-conscience existed before ours.

Death in Adam, Life in Christ
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned---13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification.17 For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.19 For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Romans 5

how can one be godly when they do not believe God will finish what he started?

They may appear godly, but they do not know God at all
