I like where you are going with this...
...unlike our futurists friends who think everything was written to and for them. They totally fail to recognize that Revelation was specifically written to the 7 churches of first century Asia Minor (Turkey). The message was for them. Although all who read are blessed, we should not take that to mean, "All who read have the same level of applicability."
Our futurists friends have the innate ability to take a passage like this:
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
And turn "near" into the passing of 1/3 of the known world's history. Worse yet, they refuse to identify the audience and purpose.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]John, to the seven churches which are in Asia. Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, [SUP]5 [/SUP]and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.
These confused futurists fail to appreciate the times those early churches were in, beat down by Roman and Greek oppression and often times Jewish oppression. Rome was ruling the known world with an iron first. Nero was clothing Christians in animal skins, nailing them to crosses and setting them on fire to light up the night like lamp posts. So, John was given a vision and told to write to these 7 churches, to give them comfort straight from the spirits of God and His Son and to remind them that His Son sits on the throne and is ruler over all the kings oppressing them. Revelation is as much a book of comfort as it is a book telling them what would become of their oppressors in the very near (not 2,000 year) future!! In the end, God wins!!!
Sad, but our futurists, rapturists friends have no concept of audience integrity. They certainly know nothing about history and the customs of old, which play a big part in the knowledge needed to decipher Revelation which I might share a little of next with you since you are on the verge of getting it.
