The gospel is ABOUT Jesus and what He did upon the cross for the forgiveness of sins, rose again, ascended into Heaven and sent His Holy spirit to allow us to be born again and cry out Abba Father.
The letter from The King is not the King Himself, nor is His messenger the letter or the King. There is a difference between the message and the person who sends the message.

Yes it indeed is part of the Gospel. Have you considered these other verses and what they mean? Here is Jesus preaching
"the Gospel" before his death, burial and resurrection after his Baptism with John.
Mar 1:15
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Mar 8:35
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
