God's letter with the Holy Spirit dealing with them brought godly sorrow to the church. That is conviction.
repentance is not conviction, is it?

Uhhhhh, there were..Or at least, very soon after He was born..
That is an example of a tradition that has been taught that is not true. Try to find the wise men at Jesus' birth. They came at least a year after he was born and He was then a child. And it doesn't say there were 3 of them.
No, I read you right, That's why I reposted what you said.
You said convict and chasten were the same
No, The lord rebukes them, he does not convict them, Again, Why does someone who knows something is sin need that sin exposed.
Because baby christians don't know it all.
He needs his heart exposed, not his sin.
You do not rebuke a person who is not a child of God, you convict them
Not true. The holy Spirit is the only one convicting anyone of sin.
We plant & water, but God gives the increase.
You do not convict a child of God, you rebuke, or admonish them.
Same thing here
this is where understanding of the English language helps and context help.
Yes, the word (translated rebuke) CAN BE translated convict It does not mean that is the WAY it should be translated. and notice how none of the English interpretors translated the word convict, but all translated rebuke, admonish, correct, reprove, There is a reason, the English word convict does not fit the context.

I want to note some inaccuracies here in this post in red:
To me, that's what convict means.. to rebuke, admonish, and/or correct us..![]()
Can someone post all the scriptures that says that the Holy Spirit convicts the believer that is in Christ of sin in the New Covenant. Thanks. Let's see them all.
There must be lot's of them because so many in the church say this saying all the time - that the Holy Spirit convicts us believers of sinning.
( I know of one that says that the Holy Spirit "convicts" the believer of righteousness because Jesus went to the Father for us as our Advocate. )
Our sins are forgiven and God's holy spirit still chastens His children and teachings us how to overcome.

No but conviction should bring about repentance.

We overcome by the blood...and the Word of confession. His work. My God we are yet babes in the womb.
That was not his point, was he wrong in what he said?
Hi RS
I don't know to whom you're speaking.
If you reply to me, please use the quote feature.
I find that there is a great deal of misunderstanding between the O.C. and the N.C.
It would seem that under the O.C. we are under the Law and under the N.C. we are not.
You yourself have stated that there is no sin where there is no Law.
So, the question becomes IS THERE A LAW?
Or did it just CHANGE?
Did God take the Law from a piece of stone upon which it was written when given to Moses...
And did He place it in a heart of flesh as promised in Ezekiel 36.26...
Or was the Law done away with, discarded, abolished?
Are we to believe JESUS or not?
Did Jesus not say that He DID NOT come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. Make it more complete, make it BETTER.
Mathew 5:17
In fact, JESUS says that not one iota of the Law shall pass. Many here know Greek, apparently, and will know that IOTA means not even one little letter of the Law.
So since you say that we need a Law to be accountable for sin and you believe there is no Law...
Could you please show me where JESUS says this?
Thanks.
Unless we apply His blood to the doorpost of our lives, we do not feel safe nor does His angels pass over us.
Amen!
I sure do believe our loving Father corrects us and "child-trains" us. He does it by His word.
If we want to see how our Father corrects us - see how Jesus corrected and death with the disciples. Jesus is the perfect representation of the exact nature of the father and Jesus did the will of the Father while on this earth.
If we think God is punishing us - we have a wrong view of the Father and we are bringing our own humanistic thoughts and ways and projecting them on to Him and His ways.
1 John 4:18-19 (NASB)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
[SUP]19 [/SUP] We love, because He first loved us.
What ways have we seen Jesus discipline the disciples? That would be an interesting study to ponder.
I'd like to make an announcement.
All glory to God, today is my 7 year anniversary of being cancer-free.
