Is it necessarily a bad thing if you are snacking every couple of hours. Obviously there are healthy snack options, but what if you are craving crisps or sugary foods, even if you are not normally into sugary food? Could it be a symptom of a medical condition?

Nope. Food is normal.
Food is, but snacking is not. It could be an early sign of diabetes, but then of course there are many other early signs of diabetes. I was wondering if snacking could be a warning sign of anything other than diabetes.

Grazing, or constantly snacking is not a good way to conduct your diet. The damage it does far outweighs some of the perceived benefits.
Food in general is very addictive. You can tell your not really biologically hungry if your hunger comes on quickly. True hunger builds up slowly.
Sugar specifically is very addictive.

Try to stop cold turkey. It is very hard to do, but trying to eliminate to much sugar slowly is even harder to do then cold turkey.
It will be a beast to do. Pray to God for strength. you can not do it on your own strength, trust me.

acoording to medicine, everything is a medical symptom so dont worry about it unless you feel like u cant live without it. try getting nuts and fruits as a snack instead :p they help if ur not comfy..or dark chocolate

The problem is if he keeps doing it (and it will take many years from the onset to manifest) it will become something he will worry about. One can keep piling on the abuse and insult to the body for only so long without the body rebelling and/or just plain giving up.

'snacking' can very easily become 'addictive', eliminate it, if it isn't a healthy, beneficial food -
the 'results' will be amazing...

Hi Alnmouth,

Do you eat normal sized meals?

If so and you're grazing every couple of hours than it's not healthy. You could be having cravings because as Joseph said, sugar is addictive. It can be the cause of craving.

I know of some people who can't eat a full meal and they end up too skinny so they have to eat more often so they take in enough nutrients for the day.

A short while ago, I was at a ball game and snacking on sea weed. A little girl saw me eating it and said to her father, "Daddy, ewwwww he's eating sea weed". It may sound gross but it is one of the healthiest foods anywhere. :)

I've found (and confirmed with my dr.) that when I'm craving sugar, one of two things is happening - I'm either sleepy (and looking for that tryptophan boost) or dehydrated. Often drinking more water or eating a bit of protein nips my sugar cravings.

Thank you for this

I don't believe snacking between meals is good for us. Our bodies need time to finish digesting so cellular repair and detoxification can be more effective. But, snack between meals is a hard habit to break, I'm guilty of this. :P
