Ah that's what it means.
I didn't want to ask in case I sound as thick as I look
You don't look thick.
You look just about ready to put in the oven...
If we could just get that remote and beer out of your wings.
Ah that's what it means.

Sounds a little contradicting. One sounds like false faith. And the other a act of faith.
Not really. The first one would be more an act of selfishness.. Not false faith. If someone has a false faith, then how could they get saved, if their faith isn't real to begin with?
You are welcomeAh that's what it means.
I didn't want to ask in case I sound as thick as I look
You know gb9, I've read along and agree with what you've been saying.
But the above comment is very demeaning.
First of all, the WE and the THEY would not be very appreciated by Jesus who said that we should all be of like mind.
Need verses?
1 Corinthians 1:1-13
Ephesians 4:3-6
John 17:20.21
and more.
I'd say the same for "the works crowd". How would you like to b called the "no works crowd". It's silly to say the least.
And why would you think that you've read through the bible and not the Others. This assumes that you are correct and the "Others" are not. When I could list many, many verses to support my position that works are necessary.
And anyway, if you all seem to agree that works ARE necessary, why even discuss this?
We are one Group, Christian, who might disagree as to wording or a small nuance or a big doctrine. But we could respect each other, I think.
Some had works of wood, hay and stubble ---- unfaithful
If you need FAITH to be saved
And they were UNFAITHFUL
HOW could they still be saved, as you state?
You have faith ---------- You're saved.
You don't have faith ---- You're not saved.
BTW, the scripture is 1 Corinthians 3:11-15
And how would you explain 2 Corinthians 5:10-11?
He is misinterpreting the scripture of wood and gold.
If you read it in context its plain as day he isnt talking about salvation. But simply rewards in heaven. To make this fit into a salvation debate is taking it out of context.
Every commentary i have read about this verse is speaking to Pastors and their work in the church successful or not. If they laid the true foundation and then tried to lead their church in truth their work will one day be tested.
2:12 Therefore: Paul desires the Philippians to respond positively to his admonition to have the mind of Christ (vv. 5–8). The command is to the entire group since the word you is plural. The subject is their mutual, corporate salvation (see 1:19, 28; Luke 22:24–30). work out: The Greek term speaks of the present deliverance of the Philippians. The word translated work out is used by the first-century author Strabo to speak of digging silver out of silver mines. Thus salvation can be compared to a huge gift that needs to be unwrapped for one’s thorough enjoyment. Note that Paul is encouraging the Philippians to develop and work out their salvation, but not to work for their salvation.
That's a bit different from your synopsis of v12.
Listen I am not saying that works/fruit should not accompany our salvation. They should and if they are not we should pulling people aside and asking why and seeking reasons why.
I am saying works on their own will not save a person.
God is no longer concerned with our flesh/works/obedience/repentance/sacrifice/sin.
He is concerned with our Spirit. He wants us to trust in Him, believe in what he accomplished for us, He no longer relates to us on the basis of sin or works.
That is why He forgave all sin, so that our and His focus could be on our spirit and our relationship with Him. So He can participate in our lives, and we can participate in His work.
The Gospel is so simple.
Bad news :Sin and Death.
Good news, forgiveness of sin and Life.
Our lives then become a matter of our hearts. When we receive the Holy Spirit, He starts to change our hearts. He will finish the work. The scriptures clearly states that He will complete the work that He started in me.
I trust Him, I have stopped "looking". I have stopped "doing". I have stopped "searching" the wilderness for His will.
He will reveal to me when I will be useful. I will rest in His mercy and grace and I will learn to listen, and when He speaks I will move. That doesn't mean that I am a hermit, I still live my life, I still help when I can, but I am not judged by ANY of that.
This will be my final judgement: I now have eternal life with Him (started at the point of salvation), because I know Him, and He knows me, NO ONE can or will be able to take that away.
and James said faith alone will not save...So what is the conclusion of the matter? Deeds done in faith from heart purity...
We do works before AND after we're saved. To me, good works is helping people. Whether it's volunteering somewhere, mowing someone's lawn, etc... Those are works. Are they needed FOR salvation? NO. Are they needed to KEEP salvation? NO. However, we are to continue to do good works, because it is a command of God.NOT because we are hoping to maintain or receive salvation.

Amen! James is discussing the proof of faith (says-claims to have faith but has no works/I will show you my faith by my works - James 2:14-18), not the initial act of being accounted as righteous with God (Romans 4:2-3).James never said that......it was phrased in a question....more embellishments from the cake taking workers for!
SHOW ME YOUR FAITH<---JAMES
MAN justified before GOD by FAITH<---PAUL

See Blue, when you get away from plain scripture problems are created.
You say works are not needed for salvation --- OK.
Then you ask if they're need to KEEP salvation and you say NO. However you say we should keep them because it is a command of God.
§So if God commands it and we don't do it, where does that leave us.
God commands us not to kill. If we go around Killing people, do we still get to go to heaven?
1 Corinthians 9:1-13
Paul and Peter and James, and every writer, beg us to continue in our faith and to do what is good so that we may be sure of our calling.
2 Peter 1:5-10
Peter tells us that IF we do the things he speaks of, we will never fall, and that he will keep reminding us of these things - that's how important it is to do the works.
What things?
Moral excellence
Knowledge
Self-Control
Perseverance
Godliness
Brotherly Kindness
Love
Without these qualities we are unfruitful in the Kingdom.
2 Peter 1:8 WITH these qualities we will NOT be useless.
I would suppose that we could consider these works.
We are exhorted to do them.
real reality is this- no one is sinless and perfect.
some of you want to create this fake reality where you are.
you see, since God knows everything about you, every thought you think, don't you think it is best to be totally honest with yourself, because if you are not, then you are trying to hide truth from yourself, truth that God already knows.
That is not funny. I think you need to have your demons exorcised...
I still do not get it.
They say they trust christ in everything,, Even their walk.
But they do not trust Christ when it comes to their salvation. When he says he has perfected forever those being sanctified, When he said you HAVE eternal life. When he says he has given you everything he has.
How can they make these claims with a straight face is what I want to know.. How can they say things which are obviously not true?
