Jann Arden - Good Mother

I've got money in my pockets
I like the colour of my hair
I've got a friend who loves me

Got a house, I've got a car
I've got a good mother
And her voice is what keeps me here

Feet on ground, heart in hand
Facing forward, be yourself
I've, I've never wanted anything
No I've (no I've) I've never wanted anything so bad, so bad

Cardboard masks of all the people I've been
Thrown out with all the rusted, tangled
Dented God Damned miseries
You could say I'm hard to hold

But if you knew me you'd know
I've got a good father
And his strength is what makes me cry

Feet on ground, heart in hand
Facing forward, be yourself
I've, I've never wanted anything
No I've (no I've) I've never wanted anything so bad, so bad

I've got money in my pockets
I like the colour of my hair
I've got a friend who loves me

Got a house, I've got a car
I've got a good mother
And her voice is what keeps me here

Feet on ground, heart in hand
Facing forward, be yourself

Heart in hand, feet on ground
Facing forward, be yourself
Just be yourself, just be yourself

Feet on ground, heart in hand
Feet on ground, heart in hand

When I got Jann's autograph many years ago (22 years?), while I was close to the front of the line I heard someone ask her, where do your songs come from? And Jann answered that she did not know, and that made me cry, because I knew her songs came from her heart and soul. When it was finally my turn, Jann thanked me for my patience in waiting so long, and I asked if I could give her a hug, so she came out from behind her table and we shared a nice big warm hug. She wrote that she loved my purple on one of the CDs she signed for me :D

This song was on the first CD of Jann's I had, called Living Under June, which I listened to endlessly for quite some time :) I had a line from the previous song (Good Mother) on my outgoing phone message for years: "Just be yourself." I have always loved this song, Could I Be Your Girl? I wonder if she is singing about Jesus. It sure seems like it :)

Were you playing the duenna... er, whatever a male version of a duenna is, were you playing that last night?
Mmm, more-so the D&D, but that wasn't why. You just had me recall, though, that I was the oldest in our little trifecta of super friends. Ugh! When did I get to be "the oldest" of anything??

Say good bye to a lot of things when you reach thirty...

Gracefully surrender the things of youth:
The birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan
And let not the sands of time
Get in your lunch.

I am glad you went. Not for him, but for yourself, and everyone who loved
him, those who will miss him for the rest of their lives, who will carry the
memory of who he was in this life in that treasure chest we call our heart.

Twenty is too young. I don't mean to pry, or make assumptions about why he died, just commenting in general about how many people are dying here as a result of fentanyl overdoses. It has turned into quite a health care emergency crisis, with close to a thousand overdose fatalities in Vancouver last year. It is not even just hard core addicts who are dying from the unintentional use of this very powerful extremely toxic drug, but recreational users and the occasional weekend partier, often quite young. One young woman who recently died told her friends she was paying extra to make sure she was not buying it, that her dealer knew what he was selling.

But Satan is a liar and a thief. He does not care how he gets you in the ground, as long as he puts you there before you can accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Sometimes I look back on all the stupid things I did, and all the times I almost died, and it is hard to fathom how I survived it all. I understand that people suffer and trauma is often very
difficult to deal with and face head on straight, to untangle one's self from the tentacles that try to drag us under, yet processing the hurts and betrayals, and allowing ourselves to fully feel and acknowledge the damage done by those we trusted and loved is an integral step to healing the wounds that bind us. Allowing the full extent of our grief to inform us of what it is we cherish above all else in life holds great value for us. Praise God for His goodness in helping us to grasp these timeless truths... sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.

Someone just posted a pic on facebook of my best friend from childhood who passed away about 20 years ago (it was his family member who posted it). I really miss him and know that no friendship will ever come close to the one that we had for almost 20 years. :(

That's really hard. We have a lot of young people dying from drug overdoses in my town. I can't imagine the pain the family goes through. Again I'm really sorry for your loss. I hope your friend is at peace.

Thank you guys, and that's seriously sad Magenta and Fenner. He died of choking on his own vomit after drinking too much. It is striking because you don't see that kind of a person in him (drugs, alcohol, etc), just happened like that with some of his buddies while in the Marines.

Yes, it is, SP, and terribly sad how your friend died, also. I was remembering some of the people I was acquainted with, one in particular who tried to give me way too much at one time, and I only did half and was so wasted I could not function. While in that state, his mother came into the room and talked and talked and talked to me about how worried she was about her son, on and on she went with me not even able to give any reply... and he did eventually fatally overdose. Another young woman who was so vibrant and vivacious and beautiful, ended up becoming catatonic and then strangling her mother to death. (Those incidents happened when I was your friend's age.) The seriousness of drug and alcohol abuse is not something people who are "experimenting" normally want to hear, though, sad as that may be. By the grace of God I was delivered.

I'm a little unsure what to do about something. The night before Easter I was really sick. I ended up in the ER, they ran tests and I had an IV run through my arm. They always have difficulty finding a vein on me. So they called in a some from Phlebotomy to put in the IV. He did an ultrasound on my arm and put the IV in. Since that time I have a lump and sore spot from where the IV was. The IV didn't bother me while it was in. But I was on Morphine, so I was out of it.

It hurts, it's this lump that hurts. I don't want to go to the doctor. I know that sounds stubborn. Anyone have this happen to them?

MOST likely it is just a kind of scar tissue.
If it starts feeling warm and sore that is a sign of inflammation and you should have it checked, if it is just a bump,
I admit I'd probably ignore it myself :p
