Hacksaw ridge is prob the best war movie ever made....I just finished watching the incredibly inspiring true story of the first conscientious objector to win a medal of honour for bravery during the second world war; he was actually the only conscientious objector to win that medal during the war. Desmond Thomas Doss was raised a Seventh Day Adventist, and swore never to touch a gun due to circumstances of his upbringing. He was given a very hard time for his convictions, and the Army even tried to court martial him before he went to war due to his refusal to touch weapons. As a medic, he saved the lives of 75 wounded infantrymen on what was called Hacksaw Ridge during the battle of Okinawa.
Andrew Garfield was the main character in this Oscar contender just as he was in the movie called Silence, about the Jesuit push into Japan during the sixteen hundreds.
My daughter and I also watched another true story on the weekend about a five year old Indian boy who became lost on the streets of Calcutta, 1500 miles from home. He was eventually adopted by an Australian couple, and then twenty five years later, is reunited with his family in a very touching scene. That movie is called Lion.
We also watched The Girl on The Train. That was quite the psychological thriller. My daughter likes to see the movies that are up for the Oscar awards. A few weeks ago we watched Come Hell or High Water. That was like a western movie except people had cell phones in it LOL. I also watched La La Land, thinking she would not like it because she does not care for musicals, but it is not so much a musical that she would mind, I think, being more just the love story between a jazz musician and a struggling actress. Ryan Gosling is an amzing actor![]()
What got me was how come nobody went up on the ridge to help him??? All night long he sent casualties down from the ridge and they collected them, but nobody made a move to help beyond that? Please God, just help me save one more. Yes, that was pretty good. I paused it as soon as the war part started in earnest to steel myself against the blood and gore because the horrors of war are enough to make grown men's intestines turn to jello. And when he finally came down off the ridge after saving all those guys who had originally thought he was a coward, to see the look in the eyes of those awaiting him, of awe and admiration for him... Just wow. No wonder they waited for him to pray for them before they returned to the top of the ridge again. Yes, very well doneHacksaw ridge is prob the best war movie ever made....
So glad that these movies shine in hollywood....
There are some liberties that hollywood took to make the movie more emotionally convicting... For instance, the drill sergeant stepped in and told the Chain to let him not hold a gun, and he was never set to "jail" because of the sergeant.
The movie makes it seem like no one stepped in on his defense and he was sent to "jail".
And his father never got a letter from some upper to get his son off the hook...
And the fight was not between his mother and father, rather, his father and uncle were in a fight when his father pulled a gun his mother stepped in between them... The cops showed up and Desmond hid the gun... Desmond never put a gun to his father...
But the best part, they really did wait to attack until desmond read his bible and prayed... And that day, they took the ridge for good and never had to retreat off of it again!
Heeeeeeeey everyone!
I'm still alive.... still kicking.
And still praising god for all his blessings.
Just wanted to pop in and say hello![]()
