If you read Job, you will find Satan asking God, "Have you considered your servant Job?"
Job was offering prayers for his sons, just in case they were sinning on the evenings they were out galavanting. He feared. As he feared, it came upon him when satan asked to 'sift him like wheat'. In other words...dig at him and hurt him emotionally, spiritually, physically in an attempt to separate him from God. God allowed satan to do this because when Adam sinned, adam gave away his rights to satan. If you read Genesis, you will see this as well. Adam had dominion over Eden and was told to go forth and take dominion over all things. Adam was with God. When he was created, God told Adam, not Eve, about the fruit of good and evil. Adam could have corrected Eve and we would still be in God's grace in that respect, however, as Adam was tempted to be 'more' as well, he fell and started the chaos turning. When Satan gained the dominion, God, who does not lie, had to allow it...for a time.
