You have a right to post whatever you like, as long as you aren't violating the policies of the site.

I have a right to question and debate what you post.

That's all that happened.

Nothing more; nothing less.

If you continue to post views antithetical to Christianity,

I will continue to questions and debate those views.
Sounds like a solid plan. What do you think about the violence in the Old Testament? As someone who does not condone violence it troubles me. How are you able to look past that? Thanks

If there is no God,
and we're all just animals that evolved by accident,
and "survival of the fittest" rules...

then what does it matter who kills who?

It's survival of the fittest.

Who cares?

Why are you so angry?

I was trying to have an actual conversation and I feel like you are just mocking me.

When you hear something you don't like, that does not indicate anger from the other party.

Perhaps you should try dealing with the questions, instead of focusing on emotions that you've imagined.

And to be perfectly logical, even if there was emotion, that would in no way invalidate the question.

Sir, your answer to my question didn't make any sense. I was asking a question to start a friendly talk. If you would prefer not to talk that is ok also. The easiest way to not talk would be to stop posting. lol

You asked me a question about MY paradigm.

I simply reversed the question, and put it into YOUR paradigm...

and suddenly you don't want to talk.

This is very common when atheists want to use apologetics arguments.
They like to ask questions, but they never like to ANSWER questions.
They aren't used to actually having to defend their own paradigm.

You didn't ask me a question or answer my question. If you would not like to keep chatting you could just stop posting.

Actually I did ask you a question.

Here, I'll reword it slightly.

Your Basic Question:
You said you didn't like violence, and you therefore have a problem with all the violence in the Old Testament.
You wanted to hear my explanations of this, and how I would somehow reconcile violence in the Old Testament with a benevolent God.

My Answer:

It's survival of the fittest.

Who cares?

Under this paradigm, why should we care if people kill each other?

It's survival of the fittest.

Life is so important. Its a chance to help those in need and make the world a better place. Violence solves non of this. Without life there is nothing.

“You know the commandments: `Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'” Luke 18:20 RSV
Im sorry, I am used to those being called the 10 commandments. And yes I am a fan of most of those.

If we're just another animal here by an accidental result of evolution,
and we got to our current pinnacle through survival of the fittest,
and soon we'll be dead and gone and returned to nothingness...

1. "Life is so important."

If you came from nothing, and when you die you turn back to nothing, and there is nothing after that... then what is so important about life?

You're nothing but an accident of evolution, and soon you'll be dead, and gone, and returned to nothingness.

What is so important about life?

What's so great about it?

Soon you'll be dead and returned to nothingness... so who cares?

2. "Its a chance to help those in need and make the world a better place"

A. Why should we care about those in need?
All those people you want to help, they're all just accidents of evolution.
They'll soon be dead and returned to nothingness.
Why should we care?

B. Why should we care about making the world a better place?
You have a biological imperative to pass your genetics on, and create offspring.
The rest of the world is irrelevant.
Why should you care about making the world a better place?
There is no right and wrong... so making the world a worse place isn't wrong.
It's morally fine to leave the world a mess, and you have no biological imperative to care about the rest of the world.
Why should we care?

3. "Violence solves none of this"

A. You are the result of millions of years of violence! You're the result of millions of years of evolution, and you got here because your ancestors, in all their different animal forms, could KILL all the other animals, and SURVIVE... that's how you got here.
You GOT HERE after millions of years of violence.

B. Violence helps in survival of the fittest, it always has... violence should be seen as a good thing.
Violence is a GREAT thing... if it helps you get more than others.
Survival of the fittest.

C. Why should we care about violence and killing anyway?
It's not wrong to kill.
There's no absolute right or wrong... so it's not actually wrong to kill.
So... if killing is ok... then who cares?
Why should you care about some violence, and people getting killed... killing isn't wrong.
It's perfectly fine to commit violence and murder... so... what's the big deal?

The violence you see in the OT is simply justice being executed. God who rules and reigns has every right to rid us of the earth because all of humanity are criminals and have rebelled against him and his throne. The question you should be asking is given that we are guilty and sinfully wicked why does God still tolerate us?

When I was younger I was told there was a god and I just accepted that. I never asked any questions. Over the years I have started questioning a lot of things.
We often get alot of comments like these from atheists who come here to share their revelation with us. "I just believed in God because I was told to do so, I just accepted it. Then one day I started thinking for myself", and all the other junk.

By doing so you immediately put anyone who believes in creation in anyway under this silly "I believed what I was told to believe cuz Im too silly to think for myself" stereotype. It doesnt really matter if thats what you wanted to do, its what you do when you make comments like that.

Many people who once held the belief that all life came into being completely by chance, that less advanced life forms turned themselves into more complicated life forms on their own with time, forming complicated biological structures on their own with no planning "cuz it was needed" also one day questioned what they believed, and stopped believing this merely because they were told to.

"Thinking for yourself" doesnt lead you to truth, nor does it put you in a more advanced position than those who think differently than you.

As for religion and how its used to cause harm, any strong belief has been used to harm others, including beliefs that involve no worship of anything. Conflict and murder are a part of our world, even if there were no "religion", people would still be doing these same things. Some of the biggest mass murderers of our world were atheists. Religion has nothing to do with this at all.

Wow thats really sad that you feel that way.

I believe it is a mistake for you to think that because Maxwel clarifies the logical outworkings of life origins that must necessarily follow devoid of God's plan, purposes, and design, that it translates into his not caring about people. In fact he took the time to make it so clear so you could not escape the bleak outlook that nihilism produces, the sheer pointlessness of it all. You care about others and treat those less fortunate than yourself with compassion and that is a wonderful thing, but clearly it is a perversion from an evolutionary point of view to waste personal resources on the weak and helpless. Nature makes sure to kill off those who cannot look after themselves first. That is what he is saying. Life without God is bereft of objective meaning, worth, purpose, and value. It is one grand cosmic accident. Furthermore, without the moral absolute of God, your morals are abstractly contrived. To point these things out does not mean they represent the beliefs we hold as Christians :) The highest moral standard in God's universe is love.
