I predict CNN files for bankruptcy in two years or less.
While it would be a nice thought, this is what many people are not looking at.
#1, CNN is owned by Time Warner, which also owns: HBO, DC Comics, Hulu, Warner Brothers, and CW network. In short, CNN is not their revenue stream... Yes, it does make money, but even if it goes under, they can keep it afloat.
#2, Because trump won does not mean a political shift in the population. In fact, I would argue Trump winning shows that we are more shifted towards CNN news than any other direction. The fact that people believe that Trump is a billionaire and a republican shows the want in our population for fake news that supports our feelings towards a topic and not the facts itself, this leads me to my biggest point.
#3, My generation will keep CNN and similar news networks thriving.What many people do not realize to it's full extent, my generation is the first to completely go through a 100% secular govt. sanctioned propaganda machine. Govt.'s all across the world have realized that the belief in Atheism/secularism/agnosticism leads to the belief in Humanistic Morality. This is to say, they do not care about right or wrong, they only care about feelings and if the people they are told to care about feel good, then that is the way it should be. This is very beneficial for the Govt. at be. For instance, with Obama, my generation does not see 2nd cold war, Terrorism on the rise, or an economy worse than 2008. What they see is Obama portraits himself as moral and having a heart for the less fortunate. This is what matters to them. So when Fox news and Trump bash on CNN for incorrect statements, my generation does not care... They view CNN and buzzfeeds report about russian strippers more accurate because even if it is incorrect it portraits the underlying morals they believe Trump to have.
(Side note: i will say the same about Trump supporters, they care more about how Trump makes them feel about the future than facts. They focus on the "build a wall, have mexico pay for it" and not on the fact that our relations with Mexico are very very strained at the moment, and blackmailing them at this point could create a situation for Putin to ally them. The same with China, Trump supporters focus on "China is evil and stealing our money" not the fact that China is having a major crisis economically, and that they are buying the South China Sea from the Philippians which is one of the worlds most militaristic strategy locations. Also "bring the jobs back" even though the plans he has proposed will destroy more jobs dealing with Foreign trade than what we will gain by making products here. )
In all, I think what we will see is this wave of the Anti- Left quickly fade away in the next 5 years and be replaced with a socialized Right, and Communist Left. This goes for news media as well.
You can see this happening by the fact "Obama Care" was first written up by the right wing, and secondly, after the socialism experiment is failing, the right wing is not planning on dismantling it, but reforming it.
