Speaking of does anyone else ever get surprised by an updated (and often woosified) hymn in church and think, that's not how it goes.

I kind of had this discussion yesterday. We have a rather young worship team at our church. They are a great team,but they tend to change hymns somewhat to suit their more modern musical tastes. I am having a problem with that, not because its un-scriptural because I know it isn't. Its just that Fanny J Crosby, Frederick Oakley, John Newton & others poured their hearts into those hymns. The team tends to speed up the tempo of the hymn and the drummer gets involved in a big way. Maybe its just me, I love the way some hymns have been re-done: like Wayne Watsons version of "It is well," but sometimes we change and shorten them unnecessarily.

I often tell me friends that most hymns are as good as a sermon, if we sing all the verses. Sing (and meditate on) a couple of good hymns on Sunday morning and even if the pastor collapses and can't preach that day, I'd consider myself suitably fed.

Having said all this, I'm sure Sonflower did a sterling job.

I don't have it yet, but it gets so cold in there, that I'm just waiting for it to happen. Both my other kids are already sick.
In the last two months, all that has been done, is the spot where our wood burning stove goes. I give up thinking anything will get done this year.

I'm sorry, if I lived around you I'd set up air mattresses in my house for you all to sleep on.

Yes, the songs they used to sing at my church were very simple and traditional but years ago they made them sound "more contemporary" and even added drums... drums! My church songs should not be playable to with a drumset! They are probably 100+ year old songs... now they have this folksy music feel... ugh.
 
...and I used to love O Holy Night, but several years ago a certain singer made it popular and it was played over and over on the radio with him singing it. Now I'm like .. oh that song again. -_-
 
Does anyone like Andre Rieu? This is nerd territory for real. But he has an orchestra and he plays waltz music. He's Dutch and his concert is in the Netherlands. It's on PBS now. I love it. It looks like so much fun. They just had a 'My Fair Lady' medley.

I've gotten very little sleep this week. I really need to get a real night of sleep sometime soon.
