TRIGGER WARNING: How to overcome self harm?

I'm just wondering how Christian teens (or Christians in general) overcome the urge to harm their selves because they feel that they deserve the pain?

Can't tell you how teens do it, a little bit older. The advice I would give is if there was something which made you deserve the pain, it would cause it.

The reason you believe you deserve to be in pain, has left you in emotional pain. As you can see it already hurts you, emotionally rather than physically. When designing the outcome, some things cause physical pain and some cause emotional pain, trust in He who made everything the outcome of doing something causes one, the other, or both, and recognize He doesn't want to hurt you further, sent for forgiveness, so the inherent pain is enough, and adding physical pain to emotional pain is to judge yourself more harshly than He would having created things with a limited pain potential, and is therefore needless inflict more.

Internal pain should not be dealt with outwardly (self harm/cutting) but inwardly....remind yourself that Jesus values your life even if Satan tells you your life is meaningless......I never did cutting/self-harm but I had to remind myself mentally that Jesus loves me to overcome some pains in my life.....Jesus love is truly the balm of Gilead....it heals/soothes and removes the scars of life to where they may still be there but they don't hurt as much anymore!

It's probably just a distraction of causing pain to cover up inner emotional pain. Or an act of cry for help. Even though they may cover up the marks I think secretly they want to be given the attention. No need to cause pain on yourself. I have found the best therapy is find a self-defense class once or twice a week and go sweat the stress and emotional pain away. It will build confidence and make you feel healthy. At the same time, you will make friends. It does not matter if you believe you are too small, too large, too old, too young, or disabled. It can help anybody since you only do what you can and at your own pace.

Above all Jesus has the answers to all of lives problem seek and you shall find!

By reminding myself that
- it won't remove the emotional pain
- it is highly addictive
- as with other addiction, one will eventually need more to "get high"
- if taken to extremes, it can cause permanent injury to nerves and / or tendons
- the scars would last forever , reminding me of what I would think back of as weakness

I quit after 2 things happening
1. My mom catching me and bursing out into tears
2. after I realised the history of cutting

Plus our skin isnt paper. Whoever makes you hurt is not worth the victory of destroying your life. Take it as a opportunity to do good and be strong. We are made more than conquerors and can be victories through Christ against everything

Yeah, my parents found out but idk, i don't think it's keeping me from doing it
(i'm not even sure if i have the desire to recover)
and tbh, i guess probably it is because i start to ignore the existence of God and yeah... when it seems that He doesn't do anything at all, it is the easiest thing to do.

Realizing how much you mean to our Father.
What really stopped me was when someone I cared so much about started hurting herself and I was put on the other end if the rope and realized how much it hurt those how care about you.

It's hard to realise that actually you mean THAT much when the other side of you keep thinking that you are never good enough.

Yes, I'm not saying it's easy because it's not; but, it also isn't impossible. You've got to stop focusing on how YOU see yourself and focus on how HE sees you.

Self harm comes in so many different forms. I get you mean inflicting physical pain ? I've harmed myself over and over for more years than I can remember in many different ways.. An outward reaction to inner pain, We all have many different coping mechanisms that we use to temporary relieve the emotional turmoil that we can't bear to feel. It's only when we come to Jesus unmasked with all our pain can we then receive his healing hand.. To fight the urge we must allow the wounds to feel what they need to feel without using plasters to temporary relieve. ❤❤

In the New Testament, cutting oneself was associated with someone who was possessed by demons (Mark 5:2-5). It was characteristic of behavior caused by evil spirits. Today, self-mutilation is practiced instead usually by teenagers and young adults who have misplaced anger and pain that they are attempting to work out in destructive ways.
