it is unfortunate that some would result to that kind of talk. But we should continue to answer the suggestion with more scripture it should not be the job of us to make one agree with our position on the word of God. We should present the position and not use the persons name when doing so unless it ia question asked of you by the person. Everyone is entitled to their belief on any topic in the bible. Proving their point must come from the word of God. When we stay on point then those other points by people who have opinions and no scriptural context is self-speaking.

I agree it is not our job to make folks agree with us...and some of us here have had detailed and very lengthy discussions with a certain person regarding this topic

it is the accusations and the extreme one in particular that is thrown out from time to time

I guess being so familiar with how some believe or do not believe, can lead to a kind of stale mate

but scripture is always better as you say...so, even though this has been rehashed to the nth degree, sigh, we'll go from there

I certainly hope you dont think I have demon power brother. I hope you have a better sense of people than that. You've know me a while here and we've liked each others posts. If I was being influenced by demon power I believe I would know it. I certainly hope you dont think so lowly of me.
Rest assured I do not judge any with respect to being demon possessed.

I find it implausible that even one percent of the claimed experiences of tongues are genuine.

More is done in the modern church by the will of man than by the will of God. It is a shame that we argue more about tongues than we do about winning the lost to Christ.

So either Im in that one percent or Im a faker?

So I do this in the flesh...

Quote "It is a shame that we argue more about tongues than we do about winning the lost to Christ."

Brother I spent over 20yrs traveling to win people to Christ. Im not going to tell you the hardship my family endured to preach and sing to thousands of people over that time period. But tongues was not what we preached and thank God people came to Christ during those services. Please dont lecture me on winning people to Christ. I dedicated my life to going wherever people would allow us to preach the Gospel. Tongues has its place but none of us here is placing tongues over salvation.

Unless you can offer a third alternative.

That is not evident in many who are consumed with attesting to the validity of their tongues but are unable to demonstrate from scripture that it is consistent with the scriptures.

Tongues as languages certainly has its place in evangelism. Our church supports a number of foreign missionaries who have learned the tongues of the people God has called them to evangelize.

totally wrong.....I always concentrate on the Gift Giver[Jesus Christ] and never on the Gifts....I tahc all our ministers the same thing
What are you talking about?
the OP or something else?

i am discussing these 15 year olds and I say they are more tuned to experiences than they are to THE TRUTH. I said for Elisabet to make sure that the adults in this church are preaching the TRUTH and concentrate on that

These are 15 year olds. (Not to say that GOD can't reach 15 year olds) but if they do not have the ability to recognize the difference between PURE MILK from substitutes, they will stomach anything.

It's all good?
What is all good?

Dont they need an....proper discernment?

Or st least someone with proper discernment to make sure that "it's all good"?

You sir are not in the church where these 15 year olds are "worshipping" to discern anything

in fact this thread has shifted more to each ones own personal experiences as of this is helpful to discussion of your own experience as of this is somehow helpful to this young woman and the discussion at hand

There are sooooooo many people of this kind in my country. They are usually teenagers, since they say that they hate "boring" hymns in most churches so they seek for other kinds of church and end up being in love with this Charismatic church and its uplifting songs and stuff.

They keep glorifying the power of (probably not) Holy Spirit and they keep insisting that if I have never experienced the same thing as them, it means that i don't have enough faith. But, is it actually true? is our faith measured by how often we say strange things or move uncontrollably?
No it isn't measured by any outward profession at all other than confessing HIS NAME before men. After that, GOD sees and knows those who make the true profession and confession which is upon the heart where HE alone sees.

Outward professions before the eyes of men must match inward profession before the eyes of GOD (and vice verse)
if it doesnt

HE is not fooled
Even if men are

We have in the Word, which you dismiss.

I dont have to the answer the question,I know what I believe and I know what the Word says.

Its not really about having enough faith. Some people are more open to the moving of the Spirit. That being said there is order still. Some churches go hog wild and that is too far the other way. There is balance. You dont talk in tongues all service through. I haven't attended the services your youth are talking about so I cannot tell if they are doing things in order or not. I have loved hymns since I was young,I know most of them by heart. Again, balance in all things.
So, are you trying to say that the people who have never experienced these things aren't easily moved by the Holy Spirit? (please explain more because i still don't really understand)

what i am asking is, are those things really coming from the Holy Spirit? When a priest pushes you down and you suddenly move uncontrollably, is it because of the Holy Spirit?

most churches my friends attend still have a pretty clear order, but this order looks like a concert (for me). People are allowed to dance, jump, and give applause at the end of the song. They usually cry and shout and do all those concert things in some songs. Besides, they have this (strange) ritual of falling down and moving uncontrollably and claim that it is done by the Holy Spirit

i dont know, but deep down, my heart says that it is not what the Bible means.

God nor Jesus is judging anyone right now......I never use the term slain in the spirit, I despise that, because the Holy Ghost is not killing anyone...I prefer to sue the term coming under the power of God....
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven .The whole corrupted world is under the judgment of God in that way. In that way men are born into a body of death that shows the judgment of God or else there would be no death. A dead body is a sign as evidence a person is under the wrath of God .Only in Christ are we delivered from these bodies of death.

How you came up with that people coming under the power of God is equal to the Judgement of God is beyond me....
I was not promoting being slain in the spirit, falling backward, but sharing how the scriptures uses those terms as metaphors of His authority /power in judgment.

nope

nopier

and nopiest

what is malicious is your accusations that those who speak in tongues have a demon

the tongues of the Bible are the tongues given by the Holy Spirit

now the Holy Spirit is still on the earth...you can tell that because the earth has not blown up yet...only in place where the devil rules, like ISIS and so on

the Apostles and other folk living about 2000 years ago have passed away Roger...

now let me put these two things together for you

the SAME Holy Spirit that indwelled the believers 2000 years ago is the SAME Holy Spirit who indwells believers today

so technically speaking? the people have changed, but the Spirit of God is the same

and really, are you now trying to deny your stance that if I speak in tongues...well actually pray, on my way to go into town or before I go to bed or if I feel impressed something needs attention, I am actually praying to Satan?

that sounds like you either have a loose screw or you hate the power of God

God is in control Roger...not you and not me
I would say not so much that they have a demon but are following after a lie of a lying spirit. Christians can be deceived to believe a lie. Only God will not be deceived according to His truth. He is no longer bringing any new revelations as an interpretation in another language. What we had in part up until the last chapter ,Revelation,we now have the whole or perfect .

The idea that tongues (the interpretation from God from one language to another) in an onward conversation between two, God through the prophet Peter who does not speak his own words but does speak the words God put on his lips and the man who has been given an interpretation from God not from Peter in his own language.

I would offer it was not evidence Peter had the Holy Spirit any more than would be be evidence Balaam's donkey which God used to represent a unbeliever, as a unclean animal, that the donkey had the Holy Spirit when God put his words in its mouth .as if God was served by human hands/will to begin with .

It has nothing to do with the speaker used as a prophet, as if tongues was attributed to Peter. It is not a biblical teaching I believe.

There simply is no outward sign as evidence that a person has the Holy Spirit. A changed heart yes. They are spiritul unseen gifts not after the flesh. The Jews sought after signs to show their rebellion to God.

Prophecy is for those who believe. Again God is not longer bringing any new revelations in any manner.

Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the "sign of the prophet Jonas":

That sign, three days in the heart of the earth was finished before God finished writing any new revelations in His book. today we have the whole/perfect

I would ask do we need more than He has revealed in the bible?

I never said being pushed down was of the Spirit. You are making assumptions.

I would have to attend a service to see whether this is the flesh or of the Spirit. If its a free for all,its in the flesh. If someone hears a song that moves them to tears is that against the Spirit? No. If someone gives a shout of praise is this against the Holy Spirit or says amen to the preacher? No. While I have seen people dance with joy, briefly, that is more of a rare occurrence. I personally agree with dancing just to dance to music in a concert. I haven't been slain in the spirit but members in my family have. They did not move around but simply prayed quietly to themselves. But again, its something Ive rarely seen. Ive also been in services where everything was done in the flesh and you can tell the difference. If you felt wrong in your spirit perhaps what they were doing was in the flesh. But that doesn't mean everyone is in the flesh that experiences these things.

As told this before. I have a pastor friend that got saved because of tongues. He heard his native tongue one Sunday he was passing a church. He went into the church and the woman speaking was telling him how to be saved in his own language. He got saved and became a pastor in Canada. He has about a thousand people in his church now. Was that a lying spirit?!

In an earlier post I told of my Baptist friend who was dead against speaking in tongues. His church preached against it. Then one morning attending a service with us a message in tongues was given. He had the interpretation before it was given. Did the devil whisper to him,a lying spirit? It changed his mind about tongues pretty fast. He began to tell others of his experience and that he believed it was real. Be careful what you are saying of the Holy Spirit.

He didn't get saved by tongues and he didn't get saved by a man

Hw got saved because heard the God's call and he listened
