So, I have many health problems. Many we are still trying to figure out.

I did a sleep study not to long ago (a month or so ago (I do them about every three months) ) I got the results back. They basically showed that there was 11 times at night where I was at risk of my breathing stopping, I never went into a "deep sleep" and well all the numbers weren't good, let's just say that.
They made a report on my overall breathing which basically just said I should be on oxygen.
My doctor thinks that I am congested, and I sleep with my mouth open making my mouth and throat dry, and he said the walls of my throat become sticky because of this and stick to each other blocking the airways temporarily.
He wants to do surgery on my jaw to supposedly make it easier to breath (Well I am not a fan of surgery), He also wants to put me on meds (well, I am not a fan of meds)
I do not know what to say... I dont want to be difficult and refuse all that they want to try but im not comfortable with any of the options...

Helpppp

PS: I need answers as soon as possible because I have another appointment soon :( Thank you...I dont want to be difficult, but I also don't want to do things I'm not comfortable with >. <

Jaw surgery for that O.o. That's probably the last thing I would do. I know someone with Sleep Apnea who sleeps with the mask/machine whatever. It works for them, but it's noisy lol. I would suggest making sure that your head is propped up a bit when you sleep as that could help with congestion, especially if you usually lay pretty flat. Perhaps you could ask for a nasal spray to help alleviate the problem at night and see if that helps.

Surgery does seem an extreme solution, BW has made a lot of good points, maybe
you can also try to train yourself to sleep in a different position and try to work
out first why you get congested.

It might just be normal for you to sleep with your mouth open, or maybe you
have an allergy or food intolerance which is making you congested. Try taking a
bottle of water to bed with you and if you wake up then have a sip.

You could try putting a very small drop of olbus oil on your pillow (it is strong so
don't overdo it) or as suggested below to put some on a tissue or handkerchief and
put in inside the pillow case.

Olbas Oil: decongestant relief for blocked noses

I've been thinking a bit more about you.
When I was your age my bedroom barely saw a duster or a vac for months at a
time. Lol

If you are the same, you could try giving your bedroom a good dust and vac every week
or so. Dust can cause congestion and allergies, some people especially can be allergic to
dust mites. Also make sure your bedding, sheets, quilts and blankets are washed regulary.
And don't forget to wash your pillow. Also make sure there is no mould in your bedroom and
that it isn't damp.

If you do have a genuine problem with the alignment of your jaw, then are you seeing a sleep
spcialist about this or an ear, nose and throat specialist.

If it was me I would want referring to an ear, nose and throat specialist who also specialises in
pediatrics. You are still growing and someone who specialises in pediatrics will know better
how surgery on your jaw might affect you as you continue to grow.

Speak to your parents also and ask if they will support you in trying out alternatives or in
even getting a second opinion, which may include ruling out food allergies or food
intolerances. If there is no actual problem with your jaw, then finding the cause of the
congestion or a way of training yourself to sleep with your mouth closed, seems to me
to be the first course of action.

As for the meds, it depends what they are for - you say you have many health problems?
Try a bit of research on the internet if you feel you want to make the decision yourself, but
make sure you use reliable web sites and include your parents in all of this.:)

God bless

Yeahhhh... I already sleep with my head elevated (can't breath if it's not), and I already use a nose spray. I think my doctor is trying to prevent me using a machine at such a young age

Haha I'm a bit of a perfectionist so my room is clean xD I do wash my sheets, and pillow regularly, and actually we just checked for mold in my bedroom a few days ago, we didn't find anything.
Right now I am seeing someone that specializes in teeth alignment and tongue "posture", (also a sleep therapist ) they did mention yesterday that if this got a little bit worse it was out of their hands and I would have to be sent to my pediatrician.
(Sigh) If I have to go see another doctor (ear, nose and throat specialist ) It just means more money my family has to pay :/ I've already racked up a lot with this and when I was in the hospital not to long ago that I feel awful about...
My parents go with whatever the doctor says...which scares me too...I might not even have a say in what "treatment" is used for this...
I will do research, thank you for your answer!!!!!

Yes, they have me sleeping on my side, (This is going to sound wierd >. <) they also have me taping my mouth to make it a habit of breathing out of my nose while sleeping)
I do in fact bring water with me at night :)
I will try the olbus oil*, thank you :)

surgery could be warranted if there's a physiological problem like an abnormally high, arched palate.

orthodontic investigation seems prudent beforehand, though.

Yeah, another possibility of doing that. My doctor said that he wants to break some habits it have (my tongue pushes out my teeth and when I swallow it pushes on my teeth instead of resting on my top pallet he also says that the way it rests is blocking my airway making it harder to breath.) So, he said it is a high probability of going to an orthodontist after I break some habits.
My jaw has some joint problems or something that he's worried about

11 times per night? I've been tested and have stopped breathing about 90 times per hour. It took decades before doctors figured out that I had this problem and I am still alive after all this time in which I went untreated for this condition.

11 times per hour, assuming an 8 hour sleep cycle, comes to less than 1.5 stoppages per hour. This is below the norm which is 1-4 times per hour. If the numbers you reported are correct then you are in absolutely no danger whatsoever and should have no need of any form of surgery.

My best advice under these circumstances is to see a different doctor.

Wow, and idk I am not the best source of information I might have been wrong cuz I basically zoned out the whole appointment. All I know for certain is that all the numbers were in the red zone (whatever that means) it is possible my information is not acuurate

YOU are the patient here. YOU have a right to ask questions of the doctor, and you need to speak up if a treatment or something makes you feel uncomfortable. Mum and Dad are your guardians, BUT you are the one that this all is happening to. Ask about alternative treatments, and about possible alternatives to surgery. Do research yourself so YOU can suggest alternatives. You have a voice, use it. :)

Breathing stoppages = "up to five times per hour is considered normal"

http://www.augustamagazine.com/Augusta-Magazine/November-December-2011/Sleeping-Can-Be-Harmful-to-Your-Health/

From what you posted, you only stopped 1.5 times per hour. Based on this, you don't even have a problem.

:/ I know.... But they tell me what they could do (which is what I already said ) and they tell me that what happens from now is my choice, it is up to me what I am willing to do. If I am not willing to do any of the things he says it's a high probability nothing is gonna change. I feel like I'm being incredibly difficult and making this harder on everyone.

Idk the doctor seems to think I have a problem. The paper showed the numbers were all in the red zone whatever that means. So I have honestly no idea anymore

The medical report should have the numbers clearly spelled out. It should read how many stoppages per hour.

Look at the report - what are the specific numbers?

I do not have the report with me at the moment, he is supposed to email a copy to me at some point so I will answer that when I can

I just called my doctor she doesn't think that surgery is necessary so I basically made up my mind I'm not going to let them do surgery because I don't think it's necessary either I'm supposed to be emailed the report soon I think so I will answer your question when I am emailed the report
