I don't know Trumps heart but I can certainly speculate. His fruits don't show that he has a compassionate or loving heart but I'm not a perfect judge either.
Having said that, I agree with Trump wanting to deport illegal immigrants. The US has laws that ought to be enforced. Current law states that if you are in the US illegal, you're suppose to be deported. The law says nothing about amnestying them if they have been here x amount of years.
I have good news for you and people who want illegal immigrants to remain/come to the US: Trump doesn't really want to deport all 11,000,000 illegal immigrants. He's even stated publicly (before he was running for president) that the US would never go after all of them. He capitalizes on illegal immigrants by exploiting them to build his buildings, as do other Americans. Do you think people like Trump want to pay an American a fair wage when he can hire Polish illegal immigrants for a fraction of the cost?
Why does he say this then? It makes headlines and it is filet mignon rhetoric to his supporters. Just as him stating to be pro-life and his reason for the IRS auditing him for 11+ years in ago... because he's "a strong Christian".

If people are genuinely concerned about the illegal immigrants, we would encourage them to come legally so people like Trump don't exploit them economically. Simultaneously, we should always encourage people to obey the law.

I actually don't doubt he's a good father assuming he is/was involved in their lives. Being a good father tells me nothing about his personal weaknesses and short-comings. When the bible says we will know them by their fruits, they don't just mean their children. Reading a quote about his idea of a father's and mother's role does give me some insight into his heart though.

Most States or cities hires private companies so that they doesn't has to deal with liabilities. And so if the companies that they has hired in those days were hiring illegals, there is no way for Trump to know. It is like saying why didn't law enforcement did not raid the work site and deport them back to their countries? You know why, it is because they did not know that they were illegals as well. In those days, that our technology on keeping track on who are legal or not was not as good like we has it today. And there is a lot more we need to do in order to detect illegal immigrants. Like we need to be starting off by not hiring public officials that are accepting bribes in exchange for receiving legal immigration paperwork to be able to work in this country but by not providing correct information about the immigrants. If you pay them, then they will pushes immigrants through without a background check.
I believe Jesus taught us about how to conduct our personal life. His teachings don't apply on a national or international level. If we took the position of "turn the other cheek" in WWII with Nazi Germany, then half the world today would be Nazis, the Jews and Gypsies would have been exterminated, and the other half of the world would be suffering under godless tyranny wearing the mask of Communism.

If they did, then they'd be discovered. Not only this, but it's not fair to all of the legal immigrants who worked their butts off to learn about our culture, our values and earned enough money to move here and get a job and be a productive citizen that can make money for the government to spend on the common welfare.
