idk why, but every time i try to quit this addiction, it always seems to get the best of me, and when it returns, it comes back worse than before. idk if it is still possible for me to get out of this hole, i dug myself to deep for me to get out alone, and i severely need advice on how to quit a addiction. i can feel it, its starting to take me over...... :(

I use to huff... a lot. I did it everyday for a year. Even at youth against drugs camps.

Its harder for different people to get over addictions. It was actually pretty easy for me, i said "God forgive me, this isnt me" and i just backed away from it. I haven't inhaled since.

Give it up to God, and let Him take over.

It is tough but yeah, try to give to God, and don't face the problem head on, by yourslef-- you need help. Have friends check on you, your parents watch over you, and continually pray (though it may not be easy) also bring it to your church ( not openly, just to your pastor/pope) so that they may pray for you.

sometimes medicine helps.... BUT PRAYER WORKS MAGIC(miracles)

I pray this verse speaks to you as it did me when i first heard it, please read 1Corinthians10:13, and also others gave really great advise also 1Peter5:7 says casting all your cares upon him for He careth for you. in Christ, Brother Travis.

My parents tried to quit smoking by themselves, but it didnt work out, so I told them a story about a brother at my church. I will tell you the story as well, and hopefully it will give you some insight.

Him and his wife were both big time alcoholics, and neither of them had God in their life. One day his father died, and while they were getting ready for the funeral, his son was getting the car all ready in the field, and while he was backing down the driveway he ran over his little sister (the brothers), then two day's later his brother or brother-in-law had drowned and passed away. So they all left to go visit his family in another Provence to tell them what had happened. One morning, he realized that there was more in this world than us and he prayed to God, and asked him to take away his addiction and he would live his life for God, with dedication, and neither him nor his wife have craved a drop of alcohol since.

I told my parents this story, and said "have you prayed for God to take away your addiction? Because he can, and he will."
So that night my mom prayed, and she hasn't craved, wanted or smoked a cigarette in a month. My step-dad has had 4 in three weeks, just out of habit, but didn't really want them.

So what I'm trying to get at is, to just ask God to help you with it, whatever it may be, and just have COMPLETE faith in him, don't wonder when, or how, or anything else, say to him:

"God I know you can take my addiction away. Please take my addiction away and I will do anything for you."

or something along those lines. I know that God can cure you, Anything and Everything is possible with God. All you have to do is believe and put your trust and faith into him.

In the meantime, I shall pray for God to take away your addiction, and when you are rid of your addiction please tell us.

God Bless Brother.

I dont know what your addiction is, nor do I need to know. I just wanted to say that you quit an addiction one day at a time. And with God. Take it to Him in prayer, then take the decision to quit and run with it! Meaning: do everything in your power to not give yourself time to do or think about the addiction. Take yourself away from any area(s) that would "allow" the addiction to happen. (Less time at the computer, less time with certain people even, don't go into certain rooms or areas or places, --I dont know the addiction and so am only naming things I can think of......sorry!!) I guess what I mean is, like a person on a diet (in some ways this is not a great example cuz we still have to eat while dieting, and most addictins we actually need to QUIT altogether rather than cut back on) but bear with me) sitting at the table to eat anything and everything you eat helps....not eating by the omputer or tv....gets you away from the bad habits...makes it harder to munch without realizing how much! So any area that makes it easy for you to participate in your addiction needs to be limited or cut out...get it?? haha I am sorry this is a long post to read! but I care..and will be praying for you!

thank you so much, this actually made sence to me nanabean, God bless. :)

The battle isn't over. I suffered from a multitude of addictions. I'm not saying you aren't doing well, but don't lure yourself into a false hope. I did that too many times. You are one more time away from being hooked again. Submerse yourself in God DAILY! Once you start to slip, you can guarantee the addictions will start to come back. I will be praying for you. God Bless.

If you watch the movie "Basketball Diaries" with Leonardo DiCaprio; it tells a story how a man overcame his addiction; and it wasn't easy. He lost his basketball scholarship, his high school education, his family home, his mind, his friends, and eventually his drug addiction.

One of his best friends literally had to lock him up in house for weeks just to help him deal with the 'fiend' and the 'come-down'.
Powerful drug addictions can have you fiending for it weeks or months even after your last dose, and you can still feel the drugs' symptoms years after your last dose.
I would know..
