Do carrots give you the urge to answer questions? :p

If so... I can think of a few people on this site who are going to tell me to ban carrots from my diet for life. :D

Nope, the carrots have nothing to do with giving me urges to answer questions. They're just regular old carrots.

Can you eat enough carrots to turn your skin orange, then open up another thread titled "I ate too many carrots - AMA"? Because then I'd REALLY have some questions.

Spy, were you (or are you still) in chat a lot?

I recognize your username but I'm not in chat very much anymore. And I also see you're a 2009'er... Not many of us left... It's great to reconnect with someone from a "former" generation of CC'ers.

Great to have you in the forums, you add a real splash of fun!!! :D

Yes, I know it's possible to turn orange by eating too many carrots. Had it happen to a relative's friend before way back in the day.

As far as I know, Popclick is a form of break dancing from 1983. The only thing that can rescue the 80s is Nostalgia.

I'm sure the people here will be quite relieved to know they'll never have to worry about ME eating that many carrots... Unless, of course, it's in the form of carrot cake.

But even then. I'm much more interested in the cream cheese frosting.

Yes, I was a regular back in those days. Before the likes of Abiding and Bradley passed on.

I have a week off from work, and I was sitting here in this cold apartment... finished GTA V last night and didn't have any plans. There were no storm chaser streams running...

So I thought to myself... "Self, where can I get human interaction, either virtual or real? I'm up for either really."

Then my self said, "Remember CC?"

And then I said, "Oh yeaahhhh."

So I came here... started posting in the old singles forums after finding the singles chat empty...

And now I'm eating carrots.

You are right, Cream Cheese Frosting is the best part of carrot cake. It wouldn't be carrot cake without it. You could even replace the carrots... with zucchini, or walnuts... and it would still be carrot cake because the main ingredient of carrot cake is the Cream Cheese Frosting!

^^^Truth!

Question - How different is the present CC from the one of 2009?
Much different. Back then there was no Youtube channels. no bible bots. no posting images in chat.

There was also an experimental "video wall" similar to Google Hangouts, where everyone's video would be on at the same time. Revolutionary at the time considering there was no such thing as google hangouts or g+, etc.

There were also fewer channels, so most of the chit chatting would be in the Lounge or the BibleStudy rooms... Yousing was added cause people kept wanting to play guitar on the cam...

That's another trend, go look at google trends for guitar... It would seem that we're in a decline and no one wants to rock anymore.

Let's take a look at the chart: (Courtesy of Google.com)

Guitars Are On The Way Out.jpg

Notice how each year the search for "Guitar" would peak around December (just in time for Christmas!)

Guitars also used to peak in the summer month of July, as kids are off from school and wanting to start a rock band...

Unfortunately... The kids have been swamped with bedroom musician digital unst unst unst music (Which is also great), but the desire to be a rockstar with a rock guitar is on the way out as a culture...

This is a very interesting insight, thank you for sharing it. :)

However, there is one factor that have not considered, which could explain this puzzle. This picture does not indicate the falling interest in the desire to be a rockstar with a rock guitar because it does not represent the magnitude of internet searches for 'guitar'. It only shows the percentage of internet searches in that region. Detailed explanation is as follows -

This is what Google tells about its 'Google Trends' tool. I quote -
Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart. If at most 10% of searches for the given region and time frame were for "pizza," we'd consider this 100. This doesn't convey absolute search volume.

This means that it only takes the percentage of the searches for "guitar" from the given region, within a given time frame, and then grades it relative to the earlier time frames. So, the highest peak would get a score of 100 and the rest of the plots would be weighed relative to that. This is why the figure can be misleading.

Firstly, in 2005, the total number of internet users was a paltry 1.03 billion, with a global penetration of 15.8%. In 2014,
it is estimated to have almost tripled to reach 2.9 billion, with a global penetration of 40.4%. The more the number of internet users, the lesser the percent of searches for "guitar" out of all global searches. This is one factor which could explain the decline in the graph. (Source here)

Secondly, the average number of searches that Google handled in 2004 was 200 million. In 2012, the number had zoomed to 2.2 billion per day. This means that, an internet user searched for fewer terms on average in 2005, than he did in 2012, which could also explain the decline in your graph. (Source here)

Thirdly, from a non-statistical perspective, it can be argued that the penetration of "guitar" awareness is high enough which could explain why the trend is declining over the years. If almost every internet user knows what a "guitar" is there is going to be fewer people searching for it. Searches will then be limited to either learning how to play it or searching for specific music tracks/tabs/sheets for it. (No source here)

All these factors (plus, probably a few more), will explain why Google Trends shows a decline in the trend for the term "guitar". However, this cannot be interpreted to be a sign of declining interest in a "guitar". If we want to analyze whether the interest in "guitar" has actually declined or not, we will have to look at the magnitude of searches after removing the duplicate values, and then evaluating its trend over time. :)

Ask you anything... hmm...

Why did you choose SpySat1 for your nick?

Why did you refer to data mining in the "Your phone" thread?

Are you a conspiracy theorist? Ooooh, do you have a tin foil hat?

(It goes downhill from here.........)

Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?

Was dead reckoning ever alive?

What's the french word for "bouquet?"

How do you tell if bagpipes are in tune?

How do you tell when buttermilk goes bad?

Okay I'm through now. =^.^=
